These are great folks to work with and help make “SongBurst at Soboba” a really terrific event.

The excitement begins on Monday, February 27th and continues every Monday for 4 weeks (March 5th, 12th and 19th.) This will be an adults only competition (all contestants must be 21 years of age by February 27th, 2012). Sign-ups will be from 6pm to 7:30pm. The competition will begin shortly after the sign-ups are closed. Due to time restrictions, we can only allow the first 40 contestants to arrive to sign-up and compete in that night’s competition. Sign up rules (and times) will be strictly enforced so please leave yourself plenty of time to get there.

There will be thousands in cash and prizes with $2,500 cash for first place awarded at the finals which will be held on Monday, March 26th. Not only that, but there will be more prizes raffled off during the competitions for which all in attendance (competitors and audience alike) will be eligible.

without comments

Karaoke Scene Magazine Oct/Nov 2011With huge crowds and exceptional singing performances, KaraokeFest 2011 has now come to a close. But what a day…the biggest and best KaraokeFest ever!

First of all, we would like to thank our major sponsors, Ace Karaoke, VocoPro, ProSound and Karaoke Kruise for their generous support of this event. These fine companies make it possible to have this day-long celebration of Karaoke every year for all of us to enjoy. Please show them your support for all they do for Karaoke.

And then there are our prize sponsors, Ace Karaoke, ProSound, VocoPro, Sound Choice and Chartbuster. The generosity of these companies speaks for itself and they are also certainly deserving of everyone’s support.

The overflow crowd was treated to an exciting day of fantastic singing and entertainment! The children in the Crème de la Kids contest wowed the crowd with just about every genre of song from Rock to Show Tunes. The Crème de la King competitors were next paying tribute to the memory of Elvis as they graced the stage with their colorful costumes and exciting renditions of some of the King’s most beloved tunes. And, of course, the Crème de la Creme Finalists rocked the Plaza de las Americas Stage for nearly 5 hours with terrific, concert quality performances.

Special thanks go to the multi-talented Marshall Thomas of KFROG 95.1 FM for another fine job of hosting the Crème de la Crème Finals Competition again this year. Thanks also to our good friend, Manny Pacheco, the best event emcee that anyone could ask for. And in his 2nd year at KaraokeFest, the popular host of “What’s Up Orange County,” Scott Stewart, hosted the Crème de la Kids and Crème de la King Final Competition. Thank you, Scott for another excellent job! And our gratitude goes to Crème de la Kids coordinator, Candice Worl and to Crème de la King Coordinator, Tony Christina, for their tireless efforts in making the dream come true for all of their talented contestants.

And HUGE thanks go to every single one of the gracious volunteers who gave so much of their time and energy to make KaraokeFest such a special event for everyone. We are deeply appreciative of your efforts.

Don’t forget that, for a limited time, you can purchase your own professionally produced DVD of all of the exciting shows at KaraokeFest this year…a perfect memento of all the fabulous performances that made KaraokeFest 2011 such an entertainment extravaganza. The Crème de la Kids and Crème de la King DVDs are only $20 each and the Crème de la Crème DVDs are only $30, or you can order all 3 for only $60 (all prices are +S&H). Order yours today right here at KaraokeFest.com or by calling (714) 826-2212.

Our gratitude also extends to our fabulous Karaoke Stage hosts at KaraokeFest this year, Ace Karaoke, Helen Scheuplein and Christine Wheeler. These special people make KaraokeFest so much fun for everybody all day long and they are truly appreciated.

By the way, Manny Pacheco’s book, “Forgotten Hollywood – Forgotten History,” (an amazing study of some of the most important character actors and actresses from Hollywood’s Golden Years and their relationship to American historical events) continues to sell across the country at major retailers (Costco, Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and many other locations). We highly recommend this book to everyone, either for yourself or as a perfect gift for a friend or loved one (Christmas is coming). You can check it all out at www.ForgottenHollywood.com.

What’s New August September 2011

without comments

August September 2011 karaoke scene magazineThe excitement level is really building for KaraokeFest 2011, “the greatest Karaoke show on earth,” and it’s spreading all over Southern California. By popular demand, his year’s “Fest” will again take place at the L.A. County Fair in Pomona on Saturday, September 10th. That’s right, Saturday. And you know what that means…it means not having to get up the next morning to go to work so we can all party, party, party!

First off, Karaoke Scene would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our major sponsors, Ace Karaoke, VocoPro, ProSound (Priddis Music Resource Co.) and Karaoke Kruise! KaraokeFest would not be possible without the generous support of these fine companies so please show them your support. A big thank you to our prize sponsors as well, Ace Karaoke, Priddis Music Resource Co. and Chartbuster Karaoke!

The excitement begins at 12 noon with the Crème de la Kids Singing Competition Finals. Contest coordinator, Candice Worl, and her staff have done a remarkable job of looking after the youngsters and providing them with this opportunity to show off their talents…and are there ever some fabulously talented kids competing this year. This show promises be a huge WOW!

At 3pm, the enormously popular Crème de la King Singing Competition Finalists take center stage. We at Karaoke Scene are devoted Elvis fans and always look forward to this one with great anticipation. The incomparable Tony Christina is back as the coordinator of this exciting and colorful event and we’re delighted to have him. The qualifying rounds for this contest will begin on Wednesday, August 10th at Dimples in Burbank and continue through Sunday, August 21st at the Orange County Market Place with 4 more great venues in between. If you like Elvis, make it a point to attend these highly contested qualifying rounds.

The multi-talented Scott Stewart, host of the hit TV show “What’s Up Orange County,” will be back to emcee both the Crème de la Kids and Crème de la King shows. Welcome back Scott!

The Crème de la Crème Singing Competition continues to rock at the 25 venues across Southern California. It looks like it’s going to be another sensational show at KaraokeFest when the 50 finalists (25 male and 25 female) will compete for thousands in cash and prizes and the coveted title of Male & Female Karaoke Singers of the Year, not to mention being flown to Salt Lake City for their very own recording session at the fantastic “Home & Castle” recording facility, courtesy of the fine folks at ProSound (Priddis Music Resource Co.). And look out! “The Marshall is back in town!” That’s right, returning for his third “Fest gig” is popular Southern California radio personality, Marshall Thomas, as the host of the Crème de la Crème Finals Competition. The Crème de la Crème finals will begin at 6pm (please note time change from last year).

As most of you know, our Male Karaoke Vocalist of the Year for 2009, Abraham McDonald, was scouted by the Oprah Show team at KaraokeFest 2009 and went on to win $250,000 at Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge. And last year’s Male Karaoke Vocalist of the Year, Clint J. Gamboa made it to the top 24 in the recently completed American Idol. Who knows what may happen this year’s contestants?

Be sure to check out the KJ of the Year Award nominees. These are extremely talented individuals that have been voted the best by the Southern California Karaoke community at large from 4 areas: North L.A. County, South L.A. County, Orange County, and the Inland Empire. The winners will be announced and the awards presented at KaraokeFest by radio and television personality, KJ extraordinaire, and now author, Manny Pacheco. The truth is, each of these nominees is already a winner just by having been selected as a nominee from the huge number of KJs in Southern California. The KJ of the Year Awards will be presented at 8pm. It is very important that the nominees be present at the event to receive their awards. Please plan to be on hand to show your support for these talented people who make such a positive impact on your Karaoke experience.

EVERYBODY SINGS! Don’t forget, in addition to the main show, there will be multiple Karaoke stages located throughout the Fairgrounds where everybody can sing all day long and into the night. Last year a whole bunch of folks made it a point to sing at each and every stage at least once. We wonder how many of you will be able to do that this year?

All you need to enjoy all of the special events and activities of KaraokeFest 2011 is a ticket to the L.A. County Fair which can be purchased at the gate or by visiting www.LACountyFair.com. The tickets are very inexpensive and will be your passport to a thrilling day of the Fair, singing, deep fried everything and tons of fabulous fun! Gates open at 10am and the “Fair” is open till midnight.

See you all at “KaraokeFest!”

Apr/May 2011Our SongBurst 2011 competition (SongBurst at Soboba) is wrapping up with the Finals on April 4th. The event has been a huge success with the maximum number of contestants signing up each week to compete. Karaoke Scene would like to thank the fine people at the Soboba Casino for everything they have done to make this such a great event. Thanks also to radio stations X103.9, KCXX (The X) and 101.3 KATY (The Mix) for their support and the assistance of their on-air personalities at each contest round. The winners will be announced in our June/July issue.

KaraokeFest 2011 is coming on Saturday, September 10th at the fabulous L.A. County Fair in Pomona. By popular demand, KaraokeFest will be held on a Saturday so we can all celebrate during our day-long Karaoke party on Saturday and then have a whole day to relax and recharge our batteries on Sunday. Remember, the “Fair” is open longer on Saturday, 10am – midnight. All of the details for KaraokeFest 2011 will be available at KaraokeScene.com and in our coming June/July issue.

As KaraokeFest approaches, we are nearing the time for the “Oscars” of Karaoke, the “KJ of the Year Awards.” These awards are so important because they provide a way to honor the KJs whose special contributions to Southern California Karaoke deserve to be recognized. Whether it is great song selection, outstanding sound system, fairest rotation, entertaining personality or just overall a provider of a most special Karaoke experience, the “extras” provided by the nominees in their prospective areas make Karaoke better for all of us. So please be sure to vote for your favorite KJ…they deserve it!

Please bear in mind that the more votes that are cast, the more representative the results. You may vote online at KaraokeScene.com. The voting begins on May 15th and lasts until June 30th. In the interest of fairness, only one vote per email address and two votes per IP address will be accepted. Again, the “KJ of the Year Awards” depend on YOU, the Karaoke community, to participate and let those KJs who are worthy know that you appreciate their efforts. They are there for you; you should be there for them!

COMING SOON, the mother of all Karaoke singing contests…on July 5th, the prestigious “Crème de la Crème” singing competition will “kick off” with singers from all over Southern California (and beyond) competing for thousands in cash and prizes and the coveted title of “Male & Female Karaoke Vocalist of the Year” plus all that goes with it. As many of you know, our 2009 Male Karaoke Vocalist of the Year winner last year went on to win $250,000 at Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge on national television; and more recently, Clint J. Gamboa, our 2010 Male Karaoke Vocalist of the Year made it to the top 24 on American Idol.

Also starting in July will be the Crème de la Kids junior singing competition for those 17 years old and younger. And in August comes the colorful and exciting Crème de la King competition for all Elvis impersonators.

Don’t miss your chance to compete and become a singing star! All of the details for all contests will be available at KaraokeScene.com and in our coming June/July issue.

We are currently in the process of selecting the venues for our 3 KaraokeFest 2011 singing competitions, the Crème de la Crème, the Crème de la Kids and the fabulous Crème de la King. The number of hosting locations is limited so if you would like your venue to be considered, please contact Karaoke Scene at the number or email address listed below before May 1st.

KaraokeFest 2011 Expo will again offer a golden opportunity for Karaoke related businesses to exhibit and sell their products. The “Expo” area will be located adjacent to where our main show will be held and totally accessible to the tens of thousands in attendance. There will be an estimated 100,000+ people at the L.A. County Fair that day so exhibitors are sure to receive maximum exposure.

Major sponsorship positions for KaraokeFest 2011 are also available to qualified companies.

For sponsorship information, contest venue information or to reserve your “Expo” booth, please call (714) 826-2212 or email us at info@KaraokeScene.com. Space and time are limited so be sure to contact us now!

Don’t forget to subscribe now to the “Digital Edition” of Karaoke Scene Magazine. The “DE” offers everything that appears in our print edition and much more. And it is always available to you online 24-7. Go to http://KaraokeSceneMagazine.com to subscribe now. And best of all, it’s FREE!

And don’t forget our newest innovation, apps for your iPhone and iPad are now available at the App Store. Now you can have instant access to Karaoke Scene Magazine 24-7, right in the palm of your hand, wherever you are. Want to know who offers Karaoke shows on a given night? Grab your iPhone or iPad and check it out. Want to review an article or check out an ad for a product or service? Grab your iPhone or iPad and check it out. What could be cooler than that?

We sometimes get inquiries as to what the founder of Karaoke Scene Magazine, Dennis Snyder, is doing lately. Well, here goes. Dennis has been working with his fabulous “Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young tribute band and is currently involved with a new project:

On May 14th and 15th hundreds of musicians and fans of classic rock will descend on the Airtel Plaza Hotel in Van Nuys, CA to celebrate the timeless rock music of the last fifty years. Tribute acts to popular bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Journey, 80′s bands and dozens more will showcase on three or more stages throughout the weekend. Top talent buyers from summer concerts, casinos, resorts and nightclubs from around the country will have an opportunity to effectively one-stop-shop for the cream of tribute talent.

“There’s a reason Tribute Band’s are hugely popular at thousands of live music venues” says Dennis Snyder, co-producer of the event. “The music of the 60’s through the 90’s remains a solid draw yet many of the original bands from this era are no longer together or are very expensive.” Tribute acts help fill this demand at a fraction of the cost.

As press time approaches for print magazines a “Bands for Japan” tribute show is being organized to benefit those affected by the recent tragedies in Japan. It is tentatively scheduled for the evening of Saturday May 14th. Go to TributeExpo.com for more info when it becomes available.

Tribute Expo
Saturday and Sunday May 14 & 15, 2011
Airtel Plaza Hotel, Van Nuys, CA ( http://airtelplaza.com )
Hours: 10am to 6pm
Public Admission: $10 a day or $15 for both days

Talent buyers are encouraged to call ahead and get in on VIP perks including a complimentary hotel breakfast and much more. Bands wishing to participate please contact us via email.

Cypress, CA 90630

We look forward to receiving them.

Due to the pending sale of the Orange County Fairgrounds by the State of California, who owns the property, we have no definite word about a possible SongBurst ’11 at the Orange County Market Place. There is a possibility that SongBurst ’11 will take place at a different venue, depending on how the situation develops. You can check out all the latest SongBurst information at KaraokeScene.com as soon as it is available and, of course, our next issue will provide the complete details.

Karaoke kongratulations!!! Three time KJ of the Year winner for Orange County, Donna Thomas has raised over $16,000, a phenomenal amount of money, for the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles during her annual gala fundraiser at the TomKat Lounge in Buena Park. Karaoke Scene salutes Donna Thomas and all of the many folks who unselfishly give so much of their time and money every year to help these children who need it so much.

Finally, at this special time of year, it is good for all of us to reflect on the many blessings we receive but take for granted. Try to do a kindness to someone who may need a little boost. Take a step back and maybe let another person have their way about something. Try sharing the gifts of “love and kindness, warm hearts and an outstretched hand of tolerance” this holiday season. Do this, and it will surely come back to you many times over.

Just a reminder, we are in the process of having Phill Cross with Cross Web Tech creating a complete “re-do” of our immensely popular website, KaraokeScene.com. We hope to have it completed by soon. We hope you will enjoy all the exciting new features that will be available for you

All of us at Karaoke Scene Magazine wish you the happiest of holidays and a prosperous, song-filled New Year!
