KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - ChetBassetti performs Mr Bojangles on Karaoke Showcase - Found a decent backing track and added one harmony track. "Mr. Bojangles" is a song written and originally recorded by American country music artist Jerry Jeff Walker for his 1968 album of the same title. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, whose version (recleased in 1970) rose to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971. Walker has said he was inspired to write the song after an encounter with a street performer in a New Orleans jail. While in jail for public intoxication in 1965, he met a homeless man who called himself "Mr. Bojangles" to conceal his true identity from the police. He had been arrested as part of a police sweep of indigent people that was carried out following a high-profile murder. The two men and others in the cell chatted about all manner of things, but when Mr. Bojangles told a story about his dog, the mood in the room turned heavy. Someone else in the cell asked for something to lighten the mood, and Mr. Bojangles obliged with a tap dance. I enjoy finding this stuff out.Chet

JoriAnselm Nice job. I love the added harmony. I really love Bluegrass music, too.

mav2100 I have always loved this song. I always knew it was written about someone who truly existed, but never knew the entire story. Thank you for that information. It makes this song Come Alive for me. You sound wonderful Chet. Hope you don't mind Joyce and I joining in on the harmonies, it's an addiction for me. I thought about joining the "Maniacal Harmonizers Anonymous", but figured there are far worse things to be addicted to. LOL!! I am so loving this song from you. Sweet Job on the harmonies too. You picked a winner tonight! Standing Ovation from Chitown!! Mwahhhhhhhhhhhh, Pam
Reply: Pam.. Thank you so much... I always appreciate your comments.. Means a lot to me!! ...Chet

Cantstopsinging I don't recall if I heard this from you before but this one of the best versions to my ears of this song.2 thumbs up on the harmonies. Your vocals come across so clearly! Do you record on your IPAD?
Reply: Joyce..big thanks for your 2-thumbs!!! (beat ya with my 3-! ) I invested in the waterproof version of the iPad which surprisingly looks almost the same as the regular version except it came packaged in a Ziploc bag I'm not sure what the difference is.....oh...I just read what I wrote here. Anyway I wasn't pleased with the effect in my vintage sound chamber echo chamber that I made myself with plans off of eBay I think I should have shut the shower curtain..I'll fix and repost elsewhere..Chet
