What’s New Dec 2003
It’s the holiday season again and the list of new and innovative Karaoke products continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Everywhere you look…there’s Karaoke! From the internet to the local retailer to the big chains…it’s exciting! There are loads of new songs and tons of new equipment to choose from…something for everybody. The annual NAMM (International Music Products Association) Show will be coming up in January at the Anaheim Convention Center and we can’t wait to see all the latest Karaoke “stuff.” This is the largest show of its kind anywhere and we never cease to be amazed at what we find there. Unfortunately, the NAMM Show is not open to the general public, but we’ll most certainly let you know what we discover there.
We are very proud to announce a new and exciting addition to KaraokeScene.com called the “Singer’s Showcase.” Here, singers can place recordings of their vocal performances on the internet where any and all can listen to them anytime they wish. This exciting idea is the brainchild of our esteemed Webmaster, Phill Cross of CROSS WEB, leaders in their field. Many months of planning, creating the architecture and testing have now resulted in the practical application this innovative concept. And it’s so easy for everyone to participate, too. You’ll find all of the details posted on our website between now and January 1, 2004. After that date, the Singer’s Showcase will be up and running full time. We are looking forward to listening to all of the talented singers out there who post their performances on our site.

We have had a tremendous response to our two episodes of “That’s Karaoke“ (our internet based Karaoke StreamCast radio show) dealing with the critical issue of “piracy” (the illegal copying of Karaoke discs) and its effect on the Karaoke industry and community. It’s good to see that so many folks are interested in this subject and really want to see some reasonable solution to the problem. We’d like to thank Tom Turner, General Manager of Sound Choice, and Christian Nelson, the Creative Director at Priddis Music for their insightful and forthright comments during their on-air conversations with us. There is a lot to be learned here and we hope that you will give a listen if you haven’t already. Just click on Episode #4 and/or Episode #5 on the “That’s Karaoke“ page.
The KaraokeFest 2004 Golden Achievement Award voting will take place soon. This voting is so important because it is the process for selecting those individuals and venues in the Karaoke community worthy of recognition for their outstanding contributions and achievements. Your vote really counts! Please exercise your franchise and vote for those whom you deem worthy. They deserve it. (Remember, although you do not have to vote in all categories, any category you choose to vote in must be completely filled out with a different name on each line in order for your vote to count.)
And finally, all of us here at Karaoke Scene wish you and yours the happiest of holidays and a most prosperous and song filled New Year!
