What’s New Oct 2005

October / November '05 Karaoke Scene Magazine CoverThe last time that we published a Karaoke Cares issue was immediately after 9-11 when a great tragedy occurred and some of our fellow Americans desperately needed help. Well, there has been another set of tragedies which has resulted in the biggest natural disaster this country has ever seen, the Gulf Coast Hurricanes. Accordingly, Karaoke Scene would like to announce a new fundraising effort where the Karaoke community can, once again, help those in need and, at the same time, have a ball doing it!

Come one, come all! Help break the Guinness world record for the “Longest Group Karaoke Session” and raise money for the Salvation Army Hurricane Relief Fund all at the same time. This event promises to be the most exciting and rewarding adventure of the fall season. The current record stands at 100 hours and we certainly expect that, with your help, we can break that. What an excellent way to help the victims of the horrible devastation of the Gulf Coast Hurricanes, our fellow Americans, who need us so much at this time, while we’re doing what we all love to do SING!

The excitement will begin at 10am on Wednesday, October 19th at the Palos Verdes Bowl located at 24600 Crenshaw Bl. in Torrance, CA (#405 Freeway to Crenshaw then south to the venue), call (310) 326-5120 if you need more explicit directions. George Brandt, the owner of P.V. Bowl, has graciously offered their facility for this worthy cause and world record breaking Karaoke event. And it’s a perfect venue for a happening like this. They will remain open 24 hours a day for the duration of the event offering not only non-stop Karaoke, but ’round-the-clock bowling, arcade games, food and fun! The bar will be open as the law permits. And not only that, but P.V. Bowl will donate 100% of the bowling proceeds between the hours of Midnight and 8am for the duration of the event to the cause. These are nice people!

Karaoke Cares

Starlight Karaoke’s Tony DeFazio will be providing the sound and coordinating the KJ host scheduling. If you would like to participate as a host for this spectacular event, please contact Tony DeFazio at (310) 415-9001. Your donation of time and talent will be greatly appreciated.

And a note to you singers: We will really need your help, especially during the off hours (2am to 10am each day, Thursday – Sunday). It might even be fun to form groups to participate during these critical times to help make sure the event is successful. Please try to arrange your schedules to be there when you are needed most.

We would like to thank VocoPro, Sound Choice, Ace Karaoke and DigiPie for providing raffle/auction prizes. Their generosity is greatly appreciated. Karaoke Scene will also provide prizes and will be on hand to document the event for our next issue. Additionally, the fine folks at DigiPie have offered to be there to record the record breaking moment when everyone in the house will sing the song that takes us over the top (estimated time will be 2pm on Sunday, October 23rd; IMPORTANT: the event will continue after that to extend our the record as long as there are singers). The CDs will be available for a nominal donation. What a great memento this CD will make for everyone.

Don’t miss this opportunity to become part of Karaoke history. Please come and help Karaoke show its heart and generosity to help those who need it so much. Help us show the world that “Karaoke Cares.”
