What’s New Aug 2005
Our cover for this issue illustrates a very serious problem that has been taking place in the Karaoke disc (software) manufacturing industry. Some music publishers are attempting to charge Karaoke disc manufacturers huge and unprecedented amounts of money for the syncopation (“sync”) rights for songs in their catalogues. This is creating a crisis that could drive the honest Karaoke disc manufacturing companies out of business.
Music Maestro, a longtime major manufacturer of Karaoke discs, has become the first casualty and there could be more to follow if something does not change. We have worked closely with Music Maestro for many years. They have been a major player in the industry almost since its inception. A perennial Major Sponsor of KaraokeFest, Music Maestro has supported many Karaoke events and causes over the years. They will be sorely missed.
Karaoke Scene will be watching this story with great interest and will report developments to you in future issues. This affects all of us who love Karaoke and wish to see it continue to thrive as it has over the years since its inception. We refer you to the article on page #10 of this issue. Please take the time to read it.
