What’s New Aug 2004

Well, talk about excitement…9 on the Town’s 1st Annual Karaoke Challenge sure threw a jolt into the Southern California Karaoke community. As of this writing, the final winners have not been announced and, of course, we wish the best of luck to all of the contestants. For those of you outside the Southern California area (or locals who may have missed it), the show consisted of 2 auditions, 5 weeks of preliminary rounds and a 6th week of finals. Although there were judges at the preliminaries, the ultimate deciders of which contestants would move on to the finals were the folks in the viewing audience and listeners of KBIG104.3 FM radio as they voted via the internet for their favorite performers. Many thousands participated in the voting each week, in fact, so many voted in the finals that the tabulating website crashed and was down for a time.

It was a real pleasure working with judges Bronwyn Masters and Doron Ofir. They certainly gave their all to be fair, objective and respectful to all of the contestants. They both brought the magic of their personalities and the strength of their experience to the show as they analyzed the performances. And kudos to the hosts of the show, Archer of KBIG104.3 FM, one of the premier DJs in Southern California radio, and John Hindman of Tri-Crown Productions who’s winning personality and off-beat sense of humor gave the show a special “feel.”

Many thanks to Jeff Androsky and all of the fine folks at Tri-Crown Productions and to KCAL9 for showcasing some of Southern California Karaoke’s finest talent on their television broadcast. We hope to be able to work with them again in the near future on another show featuring more of the great talent that the Karaoke community has to offer. Of course, we’ll keep you informed.

More news…the new KJ Directory is up and running on the site. After literally years of requests and a whole lot of work by our esteemed Webmaster, Phill Cross of Cross Web Tech (www.CrossWebTech.com), you can now list your KJ business where it can be seen by anyone, anywhere, anytime…instant access. For only $5 per month ($60 per year) you can grow your KJ business with exposure on one of the most popular Karaoke websites in the world. But wait, there’s more! If you join before October 1st it will be only $50 for the first year. That’s a real bargain, so don’t delay!

Our Singer’s Showcase continues to gain popularity at an astounding rate. The number of visits has almost tripled since March and is still growing. Check it out for yourselves…you’ll be glad you did. And while you’re at it, click over to the latest episode of “That’s Karaoke,” our internet radio Streamcast™. There is always something new going on there.

That’s about it for now…but in the next issue we hope to be able to break some news about a big new Karaoke competition event now in the planning stages. If everything works out, it should be a lot of fun for everyone.
