KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - Rich101 performs Wreck Of The Old 97 on Karaoke Showcase - In 1903 Southern Railway mail train (#97) en route from Monroe Virginia to Spencer, North Carolina derailed off a trestle killing 14 of the 17 passengers including the engineer. The train was behind schedule, and needed to get the mail to it's destination of Spencer on time. This song, that tells the story was first recorded in 1924 by Vernon Dalhart and cited as the first million selling country music song in the American record industry. Later recordings were released by Hank Snow, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff, Boxcar Willie, The Seekers , John Mellencamp plus many others. My inspiration to record it went like this. I was having a Golden Cadillac Margarita over at the Tiki the other night when Pam came flying by me in a locomotive grabbing my bottle of Tequila on the bar, blowing the whistle steaming away shouting something about watching out for a loose caboose! I just watched her go on by as I finished my margarita! It's not like this sort of thing hasn't happened before! I just toasted her as she steamed off in the sunset!

mav2100 LOL!! You should hide your bottles it seems I do that a lot. No matter the vehicle I use I just grab your bottle! I am sorry, but when I need a drink, I need a drink I can't help myself!! LOL! You are so much fun to drink with Rich!! Next time I fly through, perhaps in a plane you grab two bottles and I will just grab you!! Deal?? I will bring some pizza rolls and a couple Lonnnnnnnnnnnng straws! Wow Music Guru, that is a fabulous story. I think you know way too many details about this alleged accident to be just an innocent bystander! Hmmmmmm....I never did get the letter I was waiting for that week either. Don't tell anyone , but I heard some guy was trying to break open coconuts to make Tropical drinks with them. You do a fantastic Johnny Cash, Rich. I love that fast vibrato and low tone. You sound awesome. I have never heard this one so to these ears you own it! Thanks for the introduction. That abrupt ending must signify something. I Love, love, love this! Mwahhhhhhhhh, Pam
Reply: Greetings Pam!! It was an abrupt ending! Must have run out of Rum! Thank you very much for listening and for your way too kind comments!! I really appreciate you and thank you very much!! Even though your Harley left skid marks on the bar, and the locomotive took out the tables and chairs and you took off with the Tequila and Rum!! Thank goodness I still have my coconuts! See ya later...RICH
