KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - Rich101 performs Wreck Of The Old 97 on Karaoke Showcase - In 1903 Southern Railway mail train (#97) en route from Monroe Virginia to Spencer, North Carolina derailed off a trestle killing 14 of the 17 passengers including the engineer. The train was behind schedule, and needed to get the mail to it's destination of Spencer on time. This song, that tells the story was first recorded in 1924 by Vernon Dalhart and cited as the first million selling country music song in the American record industry. Later recordings were released by Hank Snow, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff, Boxcar Willie, The Seekers , John Mellencamp plus many others. My inspiration to record it went like this. I was having a Golden Cadillac Margarita over at the Tiki the other night when Pam came flying by me in a locomotive grabbing my bottle of Tequila on the bar, blowing the whistle steaming away shouting something about watching out for a loose caboose! I just watched her go on by as I finished my margarita! It's not like this sort of thing hasn't happened before! I just toasted her as she steamed off in the sunset!

Jerry I love this old classic...and you really do have some "Johnny Cash" in your delivery. Your recording is absolutely OUTSTANDING! Did it end short? On the other matter: There are only two ways to deal with that woman. 1. Ignore her, but you cannot; 2. Hide your liquor behind a padlocked door; or, 3. (I know, I said 2, so this is really the second 2) marry her and pay for your life's mistakes; or 4. (the third 2) Stop her and just give her the bottle. LOL Otherwise, you just cannot stop this crafty, determined and lovely woman. LOL
Reply: Good Day Jerry!!! Thank you very much for listening and for your kind comment!! That karaoke version of the song has a rather abrupt ending!! As far as Pam goes....I have a plan for the next time!! (I am starting to feel like Wile E. Coyote trying to stop the Roadrunner!) Anyway.. thanks again Jerry!!! Appreciate you very much!! Take Care, RICH

Abbygail25 Omg . You are sooo funny Rich...I'm learning so much about my gf Pam...I'm still giggling...Great history on this oldest country song... excellent performance..you brought the wreck to life!!! Much enjoyed the entertainment tonight!!!..Abby
Reply: Good day Abby!!The actual wreck wasn't like the worst or even near the worst train wreck, but the song was written about it made it legendary. And now about Pam... I really didn't want to mention it earlier, but besides the bottle of Tequila, she also snatched up a bowel of pretzels! I'll be watching for her next time.. Thank you Abby very much for listening and for your very very kind comments!! I appreciate that very much. I'd offer you a Margarita, but I seem to be out of tequila! RICH
