My cb 12k h/drive specifics: Seagate 320 Front label - hard to remove gold aluminum foil with inscription “Licensed to (my full name) Registration # ******". Same thing in the back “Registered with chartbusterkaraoke.com + another assigned numbers 0000****".Words to the wise, an unsolicited advice. Protect yourself. An original cb drive will have the info I mentioned above. If you’re purchasing an original 12k cb ask the seller to give you not just a receipt but also something in writing that the drive is being transferred to you, with your name, his name, signed & notarized if possible.

Yes, it is a fully licensed HD (Unlocked) purchased from Chartbuster when Greg was there, It is a Segate Expansion HD ,with Gold Seal with my Name & company same as Bian's description. I purchased it April 2012 right before they closed their doors.

I don't know anything about transfer of ownership. Just keep emails, receipts, communications is about the best one can do.
I do have en email from David Grimes though stating the following -
"Digitrax Entertainment doesn’t have a position on Chartbuster product. Chartbuster Karaoke no longer exists.
However, I can respond on behalf of Piracy Recovery: those individuals and businesses playing songs from those drives and legally purchased them directly from the manufacturer aren’t targets of investigations."

I will have to dig up my paperwork for the CB12000+ drive. I don't recall there being an restrictions on resale but I have not looked at the paperwork in a couple years now.
The drives were not licensed in anyway, it was an outright purchase. Even though there is a label with the name of the original purchaser on the original drive, I don't think there is any legal basis for not being able to resell it.
It's much like regular CD+G's in that respect. So long as they are selling the ORIGINAL and not a copy, it should be able to be resold.
When I received my drives, I immediately copied the information to my production systems and then stored the originals.

as i understand it, PRLLC owns the trademark which is what you would get sued for. "those individuals and businesses playing songs from those drives and legally purchased them directly from the manufacturer aren’t targets of investigations." would tell me you are fine.

Thanks, Gregg Gregg... based on Waylon's number of posts, it doesn't look like he's been here very often. You might want to try calling him (since he posted a phone number).
