We've probably beat the subject of singing contests to death many moons ago... but what I'm wondering is, if anyone has any success or even just ideas to bring additional souls to our shows.
For instance, one KJ in our area hosts something called "Sing For The King" wherin an attendee can purchase a ticket for a dollar, and if that ticket is drawn at the end of the evening, he/she draws a card from a shuffled card deck. If the King Of Clubs is drawn, that person wins the pot. If the king is not drawn, that card is discarded, and next week the process is repeated with 51 cards and both pots added, and continues week by week until someone draws the king of clubs. I understand the jackpots can easily reach into several hundred dollars or more.
I'm told the contest has more than doubled attendance at his shows, and the venue operator is very happy.
Having said that, I'm not particularly interested in doing something like that... Don't really need to do so since my shows are relatively well-attended. But I have done things like giving a ticket to the singers each time they perform, and making a draw at the end of the evening for a simple prize... a travel mug, a ball-cap, etc. Something like that seems to help keep folks at the venue until the end of the night, and that can help the bar receipts.
Perhaps there are readers here who are looking to find ways to increase attendance at their shows, and maybe we could come up with ideas to help them.
I'm sure any and all ideas would be welcomed.
