Background... I've normally been using Karaoke Version and SBI to purchase new tracks, but KV has just recently doubled the track cost. Not only that, but there are a couple of tracks I want that, according to the Open KJ list are only available from KaraFun... (eg. Randy Travis - Where That Came From).

So, I went to the KaraFun website... signed up... paid the 7.99 pounds... and can't for the life of me figure out how to actually download a music file. I read all the instructions/info and got totally confused. I downloaded and installed their player, thinking that might be a requirement... Nope!

So for those of you who know... how do I download an MP3/cdg file set to play with my own, NOT Karafun program? Or is that even possible?

Addendum... For those of you who know me, you'll perhaps remember that I'm almost totally computer illiterate, so please be gentle.

Karafun tracks will only play on the karafun app and do not download. You have to be online to play it and signed in.

Earl,

Where are you looking at KV? There hasn't been any price increase, they're still $2.99 USD a song (exchange rate maybe?). Also a number of times I've checked the Open Karaoke database and they've only listed the KaraFun version, but when I checked the KV website the songs were also listed and I was able to purchase them there (I buy music from them weekly).

Also as I understand it, Danny's right. KaraFun's not a download site. It's an online subscription service that gives you access to their cloud library to play but not download. You need internet access that allows you to play the music during your show but not download it. Of course this creates the problem that you could have access to a song one day but not the next if they have to pull it for any reason (don't know why, but they recently had to pull a large number of titles about a month ago (Eagles?), from KaraFun but last time I checked were still available on KV). Also if you can't access the internet or like me you don't allow your show computer to go online you're up "S**t's Creek". Added to that, there's two tiers, a consumer version and a higher priced Pro version. Unfortunately, most of the KJ's that I know who use the service cheat and only pay the lower price for the consumer version.

Regards,
KarenB

Thanks for the info Karen... I'm in Canada, and KV recently jacked their prices to almost double (see example pic). Not the end of the world of course, but it did come as a shock to me, and that's why I thought I'd seek out downloads elsewhere... I could never use KaraFun since my show laptop never sees the internet.

Sounds like the exchange rate changed. Although why it didn't affect the US rate, I have no idea why.

Although you are correct in that Karafun tracks will only play within the Karafun App (on computer or phone) downloads are available. Depending on your subscription you can download 1000 songs up to the complete Karafun library. (something like 59,000 songs or so)

With the pro subscription and the ability to download the entire catalog you could run shows with no internet access.

Earl,

How much were you paying Canadian? According to the current exchange rate, if you were paying the equivalent of the U.S. price, what you're paying would only be a .26 cent USD, roughly a .36 cent increase from the U.S. price of $2.99 ($4.49 CD = $3.25 USD), hardly double the price.

Regards,
KarenB
