Hi Folks,

I'm very new to Karaoke and work part-time at a local Veterans Club. I did a test Karaoke Night for one of the bartenders' birthday last week and went over VERY well. Business is slow, and I'm looking to do my first official Karaoke night. I'm using karafun's software and a paid subscription, so there are no legal issues. However, I need to work on background music in between singers. I ended up just putting Pandora on, but I'd like to add some mp3's to the software, so it handles the background music automatically.

Any suggestions for some lite background music?

Whatever advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I just have around 10000 tracks (recorded from my cd's and lp's) that I let play in random order so one never knows what is going to be heard while 1 singer is passing the mic off to the next. Could be anything from John Denver to Pantera.

it may be an idea to invest in Grandmaster Mastermix CDS

it has a pre mixed hour long track on each cd to get you through the nights

load a grandmaster mastermix on track 2 and use the faders to fade up and down after each singer.

Background music, to my mind, serves no purpose other than to fill in when there's a shortage of singers.
But I hate it when it's blasted out at full volume between every song. I suspect most people appreciate a chance to have a quick chat with their companions without having to raise their voices.
Others may have different thoughts. Has anyone thought of asking their audience for an opinion?

it should not be at full volume.
fill in music is to keep music going while singers change.
i keep mine at 30%, just like you hear on every radio station.
not blasting, but there in the background so there is no dead air.
i thought you had a point so I did just that...asked my singers.
did Friday night as usual with the fill in music for 10-15 seconds between singers
tonight used no fill in music.
26 singers, 32 audience at the VFW
100% of those asked (all 26 singers and a bunch of the non singers but not all....) responded that tonight was really kinda dead and had no energy, but they could not put their finger on it.
i told them what i tried and 100% said to bring the fill in music back.

Toatally agree, Paradigm. Background music is fine. It's the people who blast it out full volume that put me off. Thanks for the wee survey.
