KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - DEE performs Baby Can I Hold You Tonight on Karaoke Showcase - Hello everyone, I felt like singing a Lady Tracy song for this evening. Oh, I know the beginning is corny- why I said that is beyond me. I usually either say a short poem or something else...Lol-Hope you laugh like I am. From Wikipedia: '"Baby Can I Hold You" is the third single released by the American contemporary folk artist Tracy Chapman, released in late 1988. The song reached the top fifty in the United States, unlike its predecessor, "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", but it failed to become Chapman's second top forty hit, peaking at #48. It did, however, give her a second chart entry on the US Adult Contemporary charts, peaking at #19 in early 1989. (Her first adult contemporary hit was "Fast Car", which reached #7 on the AC charts.) Given the commercial decline Chapman suffered following the release of her second album Crossroads, "Baby Can I Hold You" also became her last top fifty hit until 1996's "Give Me One Reason". Neil Diamond recorded the song for his 1989 album, The Best Years of Our Lives and became the first of many artists to cover the song.[1] Chapman subsequently re-recorded the song as a duet with Luciano Pavarotti for the CD Pavarotti and Friends for Cambodia and Tibet. And it was re-released as a single in promotion of the hits package Collection which reached #3 in the UK in 2001'. I, personally believe or my interpretation of this song as being a women who lost the love she had, and wants him back so, so much that it hurts deep inside. As she says-'Can I Hold You Tonight' what she's asking him if he can hold her tonight--my opinion is that a Lady should never have to asks, the man should just hold her for a little while, then turn over, get comfortable and sleep (it is a proven fact that men has this little thing in their brain, after making love, want to sleep).I kid you not. Well take a look on Thanksgiving or any day, eating turkey-a man has a sensor, that makes him sleepy-we ladies are stronger then them, because we have to do all the clean up...Lol. But It's his hormones and women want more holding, well not all. I remember when I was married years ago, I didn't ask him to hold me, he would just hold me for awhile, then I said, you can roll over and sleep darlin'. That pretty sums up about this whole thing about having to ask from a women's point of view. Thank you and Love, DEExoxoxo~~@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@~~
