KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - JA.MARTINEZ performs IT'S ALL OVER NOW on Karaoke Showcase - Good day rockers and non-rockers, alike! This classic, by English rock group The Rolling Stones, happens to be their first hit single. Early in their career it was not uncommon for the group to perform covers of other artist's material, which is the case with this song. "It's All Over Now" was written by R&B singer/songwriter Bobby Womack and his sister-in-law, Shirley Womack. It was released in Jun '64 by the R&B group, The Valentinos, and recorded at Sam Cooke's recording/publishing studio, SAR Records. The Womack version peaked at #94 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, where it remained for 2 weeks. The Rolling Stones version of "It's All Over Now" became the most successful ever recorded (it's been covered by numerous artists through the years). It reached #1 on the UK charts (Jun. '64) and peaked at #24 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart (Jul '64), where it remained, for 10 weeks. The Stones included the song in their second American album entitled, "12 X 5" (Oct. '64). Ironically, it was Murray The K, the veteran NYC radio DJ who suggested to the Stones that they record their own version of the song. As incredible as it sounds not only did the Stones get the song recorded, but, were also able to get it pressed, distributed and released to the general public, within 3 weeks of, first, hearing it on Murray The K's show (Note: amazingly, there were only 30 days separating each version's release date). This newly completed recording has been on my list to re-do, for some time (songs I originally recorded using my old dynamic mic and now re-done with my condenser mic). I hope you enjoy my cover of this great rocker. In the same way the Stones cover outdid the original, I'd like to restate my long-held belief that we, as the impassioned singers we are, should avoid trying to imitate recording artists' styles, per say. Sometimes the cover can actually be better than the original. Let me know how you think my version stacks up against the Stones version. I Hope each of you has a super week. Take care and thanks for the listens. John. www.novatechsolutions.com/MYSONGLIST/CLASSIC ROCK/It's All Over Now_HS.mp3
