"It's a Man's Man's Man's World" was recorded by James Brown in 1966. It reached #1 on the R&B charts. Rolling Stone magazine described the lyrics as "almost biblically chauvinistic", attribute all of the productive work in the world to men, but allows that all would be "nothing without a woman or a girl." Brown's female co-writer Newsome wrote the lyrics based on her own observations of the relations between the sexes. The song has been ranked #123 by Rolling Stone of the 500 greatest songs of all time. Let it be known that the lyrics in no way reflect my personal opinion about the genders.
