This is a weird backing. It doesn't have the background singers at all, but that was helpful because I had to really raise the key to sing it (I still had trouble with a couple of the low notes). But it's such a beautiful song.... The other thing that's weird is that they completely changed the rhythm on the part "But we're alone now"... but that was ok, too, made it much easier to sing...but also kind of ruins the song in a way. I urge you to go listen to the original on youtube as well as the many other covers. I love Carpenters songs but this one I didn't hear growing up. I just learned it, and I enjoyed recording it last night. Hope you do, too! |

Hi Suzanne.. This song was written by Leon Russell, who was a popular session musician during the 60's and came into his own during the 70's.. I had this same backing and noticed what you had. I have similar issues with Carpenters tunes, having to raise the key.. She had such a beautiful contralto range. Your vocal was clear as a bell and your performance was very nice and for one that just learned it, I could hear a fondness for the song in your voice |
