KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - JA.MARTINEZ performs I AIN'T SUPERSTITIOUS on Karaoke Showcase - A warm hello to all the rock enthusiasts out there! I first heard this lively '68 blues arrangement by guitarist extraordinaire, Jeff Beck, while watching the '95 film, "Casino", a true story based on the old Las Vegas Stardust Hotel/Casino (i.e., referred to in the movie as The Tangiers). While this song plays in the background, a closed-circuit eye-in-the-sky camera observes an inconspicuous person consistently tapping his pant leg while seated at a blackjack table. Security staff are convinced he's sending signals, electronically, to a partner at an adjacent blackjack table. Robert De Nero, who plays a mob-installed hotel manager, uses a hidden cattle prod to make it appear as if this particular casino patron is having a heart attack (the cheater is helped off the floor & escorted to a backroom where both his hands are, subsequently, broken with a ball-ping hammer after admitting his guilt and the fact that he's also ambidextrous). An eye-popping scene and thoroughly entertaining flick, as directed by the incomparable Martin Scorsese. Funny thing, but, as I recorded this tune, I was continually reminded of this powerful scene (whenever Gracie and I visit Vegas you'll usually find me making a beeline to a blackjack table - LOL). Hope you all enjoy my rendition of this outstanding blues number that speaks to some of the superstitions that afflict a good many peeps, in their day-to-day lives.
