| Description: |
Released as a single, in '97, "One Headlight" is taken from American rock group The Wallflowers' '96 album, entitled, "Bringing Down The Horse". This fan favorite quickly reached the #1 slot on separate Mainstream Rock Tracks and Modern Rock Tracks charts. Written and performed by the group's lead singer, Jakob Dylan, the song won two Grammys in '98 and was, also, named "Best Video" for '96, in VH1's annual poll (FYI: Jakob is Bob Dylan's youngest son). "One Headlight" relates the unfortunate tale of a female friend's death but does not disclose the reason. The listener never learns if it was due to suicide, drug overdose or depression or even what type of relationship the two once had. Dylan has stated that the song is not about anyone, specifically, but was written as more of a metaphor on the " . . . death of ideas . . . and shouldn't be taken literally" (sounds like father, like son, if you KWIM - LOL). The Wallflowers recorded five albums through '05 and made their latest public appearance, as a group, in '07. In '06, the multi-talented J.D. announced that he signed a new recording contract with Columbia Records. He subsequently released his first solo effort in June '08 with the album, "Seeing Things". This new recording is a re-do (i.e., dynamic-mic to condenser-mic conversion). This backing was created using MTU's Vogone VR software product. The BG vocals are comprised of multiple tracks, which I've added into the mix with some extra work. I hope you like my take on this cool rocker by the very talented Jakob Dylan. Thanks to those of you who are able to drop-in for a listen (due to SS restrictions, song file's been reduced to 80Kbps). TC. John.

LOVE the Wallflowers! Geesh, now I'm wanting to learn something of theirs. Would you be offended if I did this song? I guess I could wait a while... lol... take a while to learn it anyway. Your voice is very clear on this. Thanks! |
Reply: Hi Syberchick,
Yeah, I absolutely loved these guys and wished they had stayed together a bit longer. Listen, don't wait anymore than you need to. Go ahead and do your recording whenever you're ready. I'm anxious to hear your take on this great classic. All the best.

Oh WOW John...Oh my goodness I haven't heard this in a long time, and I've been on here in 2001/02, stopped, then came back 2004, and knew everyone & vice versa, I don't recall anyone singing this one on here, I would have remembered. OH this is absolutely GREAT work indeed hon;-) I do have the best head gear, Bose and hear each note very well. I'm still in need of rest, but I had to come by and let you know I'm on my 2nd listen and love what I'm hearing. 'Keep on Keeping on' my friend. As I said, I'm your number fan along with your graceful Lady, Hi Lady Gracie. I feel I know her through you John. I'm intuitive and know how much you care for one another and your 'kids', Lol. Oh, I checked out your sons (Adrian) site. Great job~If I ever need a mover, I'll just give you or Adrian a call,I'll pay him well, even the traveling. But, I'll stay longer at the lake house-I have 33 acres, 3,000ft of beach,no neighbors, just accross the lake,& we have parties n a stage n many friends.LoveDEEXOX |
Reply: Hi Dee,
This is such an awesome song. I love everything about it (lyrics, music, attitude - LOL). I was really surprised to see these guys disappear so fast. Sorry to hear about the pnemonia episode (take it nice & slow as you recover- you definitely don't want to experience a relapse). Based on what I hear about your mansion on the lake I wouldn't want to move either - LOL. TY for the props on my sing, sweetie, it's very much appreciated. Take GOOD care of yourself. Talk to you soon.

Your vocals sound different over these new headphones, but I think it's really your variability that I am hearing, John! BTW, interesting story about these headphones, John. They sounded lovely in the shop, but sucked when I brought them home and checked them via my Windows7 Asus laptop. However, when I switched to my older laptop (XP) and also to my Focusrite interface, I heard stuff I didn't know was out there! It just indicates to me how crappy Win7 Audio is and also how inferior new onboard laptop sound can be! Anyway, this was a crystal clear recording of a song that came to me in the wrapping, but one I enjoyed immensely. Cheers, mate! |
Reply: Ron,
I know what you mean about getting new HPs. My son bought me a new pair of Audio Technica HPs for my BD & they were so superior to the ones I previously had it took me about a week before I got used to them (like you say, I heard things I'd never heard B4 & it drove me nuts for awhile- LMAO). I absolutely love these HPs now - ha, ha. Win7 OS actually runs great on my NB. The biggest problem I've found is the inferior quality of the int. soundcard. I use CL's E-MU Audio Interface.
