KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - DonnWeinberg performs I Wont Dance on Karaoke Showcase - This was the song that started my fascination with the music of Frank Sinatra. I was watching the movie, "What Women Want," and really enjoyed this, and other, songs featured in the movie. My wife then bought me a Sinatra greatest Reprise hits CD, and I was on my way to being hooked on Sinatra. "I Won't Dance" was written in 1935 by Jerome Kern (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II and Dorothy Fields (lyrics). It first was featured in the 1935 movie, "Roberta," and sung by Fred Astaire. Frank Sinatra recorded the song twice -- in 1956 (Nelson Riddle arrangement) and 1962 (Neal Hefti arrangement). I'm singing over a purchased karaoke version of the 1956 arrangement. If you are intimately familiar with the original Sinatra song, then you'll notice that I don't try to hit the very high note on the word, "arms," just before the final "I won't dance." With more work, I hope to hit that note cleanly, but for now I can't and so I sing that note within my current range. I'll keep trying, though. Anyhow, I really love this song, and I hope you enjoy my performance. -- Donn
