I recorded this song this past Monday. It was written by Jerome Kern (music) and Dorothy Fields (lyrics) and was sung by Fred Astaire in the 1936 movie, "Swing Time." Frank Sinatra recorded it in 1962 with Neal Hefti's swinging arrangement. I am singing over the original recording with vocal elimination provided by MTU's "Vogone" program, which did a perfect elimination job. For me, this is a challenging song to sing, as it goes fast and requires lots of planning for when to breathe. The message of this song is "don't give up; keep trying, just like the greats" -- an attitude we all can use from time-to-time. -- Donn |
