I just recorded this song last night, although I've been practicing it for awhile. There's an interesting story about the writer credits. Seems a lady named Sadie Vimmerstadt sent Johnny Mercer a letter suggesting the sentence, "I wanna be around to pick up the pieces when somebody breaks your heart," would make the beginnings of a great song. Mercer incorporated that sentence into his song and listed her as his co-writer. Whatever money the song made, Sadie got royalties. What a great guy Mercer was. Anyhow, hope you like my version, which is a vocal-eliminated Tony Bennett original. -- Donn |
