KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - KaraokeChallengeUSA performs My Maria For Chipper on Karaoke Showcase - This is the toughest sub I have put before you friends. My subs are going to be a little different and one-genre oriented for the next several weeks. Before you read on, I ask that no pity be implied, because that is not what my friend Chipper is about and has never been. I simply want to share some of the tunes that when this man performed for you live, you never forget it. He has one of the true-blue county vocals. And he has a voice that could be recorded here without using a single effect. He is a normal man like you and me, but after meeting him and knowing him even for the briefest of time, you walk away thinking about what a strong force he is. I had the pleasure of singing duets with him and had never experienced the total rush of an artist's performance until I experienced the rush after singing this song with him in front of an audience. My favorite will always be My Maria by Brooks N Dunn, because regardless of the crowd size any time I sang this song with Chipper I literally felt light-headed after the songs end. This wasn't due to alcohol nor the high long-held out notes, it was because you could sense that we both put our entire hearts and soul into that song each and every time we sang it. I know the audiences experienced this feeling also. My friend Chipper has been battling a crippling disease for close to a year now, and he fought it with more grit and determination than anyone I have ever known. He is such a strong force that yesterday when I went to visit him he had to have the strength to tell ME that I need to know that the time is close. As I stated earlier anyone who meets him remembers him and will always remember him for all their days. People are pulling together in this entire area and there are two hopes I have. 1) There is a party for him next week here locally and I believe it's going to be an unbelievable gathering of those who have met him. We all hope he has the strength to attend, even if only for 15 - 30 minutes. We all also understand that if he isn't able to attend he is there with us in spirit. But my main wish is this 2) That he is able to make it through to early April so we can all wish him one last Happy Birthday. I am going to be sharing my feelings about this man for the next several weeks and sharing whatever I can, because this helps me to be a little stronger when I go to visit him, and I'm hopeful that not another day goes by that I don't get to spend even a few moments with him.
