KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - Grathy performs I Scare Myself on Karaoke Showcase - Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks’ “I Scare Myself” was hippie jazz at its purest, bringing to mind Duke Ellington’s stranger renditions of “Caravan,” and of course the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt and his great violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Swing specialist Dan Hicks, known for lickety-split lyrics and sly perversions of soda-shop Americana, would seem an unlikely contributor to the relatively small pool of acoustic psychedelic music, but consider the man’s history. Dan defied the constraints of country, rock, jazz and bluegrass with his catch lyrics and unusual chord progressions. One of my favorite artists. Dead at 74 from liver cancer. Any music enthusiast will appreciate the music Interlude in the middle with some very hot violin playing.
