I spent 5 hours with a high school buddy yesterday...just us in his living room. His left lung’s cancer tumor is so large, Doc's can’t get a scope down---but it really doesn't matter---It's dead, no point in removing it. His right lung is cancerous too. Cancer cells are quickly spreading, it has entered his intestines too. The doc's speculate a few weeks or days---his pain will end, his body at rest---the cancer too. We reminisced about our high school days laughing, remembering---'better days' indeed. And we talked about what's taking his life, many tears from grown men. He was a brilliant engineer…now cannot go farther than the length of the oxygen tubes in his nose. He's not ‘death’ afraid but has no faith in the 'hereafter'---agnostic for life. No God nothing on the 'other side'. I assured Mark, God IS there.... Mark said he’ll try to believe, tears still running...he promised to think about it...asking me to please not give up on him, as he asked for prayers. |
