"Georgia on My Mind" is a 1930 song written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell and first recorded that year. It has often been associated with Ray Charles, a native of the U.S. state of Georgia, who recorded it for his 1960 album The Genius Hits the Road. In 1979, the State of Georgia designated it the official state song. It has been asserted that Hoagy Carmichael wrote the song about his sister, Georgia. But Carmichael wrote in his second autobiography Sometimes I Wonder that saxophonist Frankie Trumbauer told him he should write a song about the state of Georgia. He jokingly volunteered the first two words, "Georgia, Georgia...", which Carmichael ended up using while working on the song with his roommate, Stuart Gorrell, who wrote the lyrics. Years ago, I was a guest speaker for a convention of about 300 CPA's. Early, I got to the hotel's 'events' room to get familiar with it and from where I'd be speaking. Then, I walked back into the receiving area and noticed a white guy with his arm folded in a position for leading this black man. I couldn't believe it...he was taking Ray Charles to his room while his aid checked him in. This is one of his best songs and a wonderfully terrific deliver by you!!

Good afternoon Brad!! Excellent song and your rendition is awesome!! Loved listening to your wonderful performance!!! That jazzy style in your vocals was terrific!! I was down at the Tiki when you were singing it and Fernando, who was relaxing on a hammock on the sunny beach jumped up , ran to the bar and came back with his latest creation.. THE GEORGIA JULEP!!
