This is Country--way country---way down the road, backwoods country. Nearest neighbor is a long hog call away. Shoes aren't in those parts yet...squirrel is cooked as bacon and dried jerky then saved for weddings and barn-dance parties. Elm tree twigs are used for tooth brushing (one tooth). Baths are every third week whether needed or not. Laundry is creek washed with lye soap when the overalls can stand on their own. No TV just radio and banjo party pickin's. And 14 year old girl is just dang near too old to git married. Talk'n way country here... |
