KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - Rich101 performs Wreck Of The Old 97 on Karaoke Showcase - In 1903 Southern Railway mail train (#97) en route from Monroe Virginia to Spencer, North Carolina derailed off a trestle killing 14 of the 17 passengers including the engineer. The train was behind schedule, and needed to get the mail to it's destination of Spencer on time. This song, that tells the story was first recorded in 1924 by Vernon Dalhart and cited as the first million selling country music song in the American record industry. Later recordings were released by Hank Snow, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff, Boxcar Willie, The Seekers , John Mellencamp plus many others. My inspiration to record it went like this. I was having a Golden Cadillac Margarita over at the Tiki the other night when Pam came flying by me in a locomotive grabbing my bottle of Tequila on the bar, blowing the whistle steaming away shouting something about watching out for a loose caboose! I just watched her go on by as I finished my margarita! It's not like this sort of thing hasn't happened before! I just toasted her as she steamed off in the sunset!

Tex I’m with Pam. I think you must have been there when it happened lol. It would be a serious mistake to take my tequila. I’d rather you take my woman but you wouldn’t like that either. Great job bud. Enjoyed it.
Reply: Hey Tex... it was quite the train wreck!! But then so was losing the Tequila! Thank you very much for listening and for your kind comments!!! RICH
