"Jump, Jive an' Wail" is a 1956 jazz swing song by Louis Prima and wife Keely Smith. The song had a resurgence in popularity during the Swing revival in the late 1990s. The Gap used Prima's version in a "Khakis Swing" commercial in 1998. Louis was a, actor, songwriter, bandleader, and trumpeter rooted in New Orleans jazz, swing music, and jump blues. He touched various genres and formed a seven-piece New Orleans-style jazz band in the late 1920s, did swing and big band in the 1940s. He helped to popularize jump blues in the late 1940s and early to mid 1950s, and performed frequently as a Vegas lounge act beginning in the 1950s. From 1940s through the 1960s, he was into R&B, rock'n'roll, boogie-woogie, and even Italian folk music, such as the tarantella. |
