The lyrics are by DuBose Heyward, the author of the novel Porgy on which the opera was based, although the song is also co-credited to Ira Gershwin by ASCAP. The song soon became a popular and much recorded jazz standard, described as "without doubt ... one of the finest songs the composer ever wrote ... An excellent production...the mix makes it outstanding. Reply: hey Jerry! Thanks so much and yes I agree that Julio is amazing. I am very lucky to have him in my life. He contacted me about 5 years ago after finding my You Tube channel and asked me to sing one of his original tunes. The song was amazing and of course I agreed to sing it. Julio is from Brazil where he as a younger man was quite the star there so he got the tune on the air down there and it did remarkably well. We have since done countless sessions together.
