I heard through the grapevine that Sound Choice has initiated lawsuits in the Minneapolis area.

After seeing how SC has fared in the years past, the whole thing has become pretty much a ho hum.

What is needed is a fully empowered law enforcement agency that is focused -unlike SC - on actually fighting PIRACY ( track theft) . What an IP troll does about a worthless logo ( and quite badly) is of no help to us or our industry.

So exactly how did SC fare and do you have numbers to back up your claim?

Another drive-by, Timberlea? If you had actually read the posts in this and other forums over the years you would have read - with included direct links - all the information that you require.

If you don't bother reading the posts, a question:

Can you show any evidence or proof of reduced piracy here in the U.S., home of the company in question? Even if you could, can you show any evidence or proof that they were the determining factor?

don't mistake, they have done nothing at all for piracy, nor was that the intention. The litigation was only to recoup money from pirates and hosts ripping their libraries to PC.

I am sure it only have to do with the level of corruption in the auto industry and labor unions spilling over into the world of karaoke :)

Correct. It was actually some KJs - not SC - that came up with the "SC Pirate-Fighting" myth. It was AFTER this that SC decided to go along for that ride in hopes of garnering goodwill. They managed to make that backfire, but again, at least their original mission statement was in regard to recouping losses. I may not agree with their actions and ethics, but they were honest about that.

It was only some KJs, not SC, that tried to make a pirate fighting savior out of them.

Of course, when they decided to go along for the ride the honesty ended.

Joe, you made the assertions, not me. I don't really care. It is their business and since this has been continuing for what now, 4-5 years, it must be working and SC is collecting money. If it wasn't, they would have stopped long ago due to no money coming in. That is common sense. Lawsuits are not cheap and if they were failing or people not paying, then they would have thrown away millions over the years.

So no fly-by, just questioning your "facts".

Although I don't know the exact figures and there isn't a way to find out IHO SC has not recouped enough money to cover their expenditures.

If HL is charging a nominal attorney's fee for billable hours and then the cost of filing, investigators, travel expenses, etc., it does not seem to me that they are making any money. Heck I'll bet the paperwork and printed copies expenditures are outrageous.

And again, if they were not recouping enough, and in fact losing money, then to continue would be utter foolishness. I doubt they would be that foolish.

So because you cannot give an answer, you call the question a drive by. Typical.

Apologies. I incorrectly thought you were claiming that they are fighting piracy.

You are correct. IP trolling is certainly making them money by intimidating settlements from KJs who have not properly educated themselves before entering the business. In this SC HAS had some success, which is why it is their current business model.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Timberlea, and Happy Holidays - though as I recall, yours are still to come. :-)

I saw no question only a statement made by you.

So yea it was a drive by.

Again the thought was IMO and I said I do not know the figures. Do you? It seems like you have inside channel to their business that others do not have. Pretty savvy for a Canuck.

How many companies do you think are out there that have a side business, (I say this because obviously SC is not in the Karaoke business anymore and it is a side business to their recording studio), that the sole purpose is to loose money for TAX purposes?

Now I'm not saying that they are doing this but just think of the write off they could take doing this. If income does not equal or exceed output then it is a business loss and therefore tax deductible.

Ducking now waiting for the next drive-by
