First time we've heard of someone going after the source? Well excepting Dan Stern?

What kind of website was it? It doesn't seem to be there anymore...looks more like just a place-holder page.

The weblink in the HTML code is missing a letter A.

I don't understand. Loudkaraoke.com is a retailer. They sell mostly Chartbuster discs. I looked up "Stairway to Heaven" and "Boys of Summer" which are two of the song titles mentioned in the article and nothing came up. So why the lawsuit? Are they selling illegal burns?

If they can sue them for selling disks with the songs (which they aren't responsible for creating) then they can sue us KJs for playing the songs, or maybe even for only having them in our song lists. We may as well all quit now.

It could be that the songs in question were not licensed to the manu. For instance, we know that Panorama went down because they were not obtaining the proper licenses. Maybe Warner Chappell is going after the retailers that still sell those unlicensed disks.

What we see on the website today might not be what was offered previously.

Blue Moon is in Washington, Warner/Chappell Music is in LA, yet the suit is filed in Tennessee?

I see that Warner/Chappell Music also filed against ACE karaoke in 2009 and against retailers and sites that use the Priddis brand:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/2724961/Word-Music-LLC-et-al-v-Priddis-Music-Inc-et-al-Document-No-34

Can someone explain, I'm very confused.

I think I was right. Look at paragraph 10 in the motion/complaint posted by Kevin. The reason why Warner/Chappell went after these websites was because they were selling Priddis karaoke products - none of which were licensed. I would assume that this is the reason behind the loudkaraoke.com website as well.

I read somewhere that Priddis was the only manu that did in fact license all their music, did I miss something?

Apparently, you read wrong. The lawsuit claims that Priddis was issued a cease and desist order when they learned that karaoke versions of the Warner/Chappel library were offered for sale. They said they would comply, but kept on selling them - at which time the lawsuit was filed.

At present, they are selling instrumental tracks for performers (no words) and will show the license on the site for each song. But that happened after the suits. It does look like they have added some karaoke back onto the site in MP4? format for Ipods/home use.

It seems Priddis also have a statement that the backing tracks are for private use only and extra licensing is required from them to use them commercially

That would depend entirely on WHEN it is dated... before or after Priddis sold out to ProSing....

But one of the biggest "pirates" if you want to use that word is Chartbuster themselves. They have judgments from 2 publishers against them that total 2.75 MILLION dollars.

$592,000.00 from Warner/Chappell alone for willful copyright infringement that they admitted they used illegally.

Sound Choice was sued by Famous Music for illegally selling karaoke discs that contain 255 titles without licensing.

Let me know if you'd like a link to the documents because I have them.

As I had mentioned in the past, the whole piracy problem started years ago... with the manufacturers.
