Joe, the music publishers already have that kind of thing. I assume you've heard of ASCAP and BMI?

I have. If you check the BMI site you will note that they specifically state that they do not cover Sync licensing or usage...

I haven't checked ASCAP yet, but assume they are the same until I read otherwise.

but BMI does have an add on for karaoke.

Hell yeah, they will charge you for anything. In this case it is the use of the MUSIC in karaoke.

So does ASCAP!

Same as above. They cover the music, not the Sync.

*sigh*

There is no such thing as "sync for usage." Synchronization refers to the creation of a derivative work by synchronizing a sound recording to video. You do not need a synchronization license to play a karaoke track. You need a performance license, which is what ASCAP and BMI sell.

*sigh* There has been no interest by the anyone to pursue it - yet.

Kind of like there was no interest on the part of karaoke producers to change mexia shifting requirements AFTER selling their product in hopes of a second income.

No permissions have been been implied or given for the use of synced lyrics in a professional manner. If they so desire, the publishers could certainly do as they wished to require that permission. Trust me, they know this. The question is whether they will decide to use it.
The point is that there WILL be "Sync Usage" licensing required if they so desire it.

Thanks to others, the giants are now awake. We will have to see how it plays out. What's funny is that those who did the awakening could well be the first abd hardest hit. Karma?

Sorry, they KNOW 99.9999% of karaoke has the words on screen. They are covering it as well if the karaoke box is checked. You can say no all day long, you will be wrong.

They know, haven't cared to pursue it - so far, and only the music is covered AS STATED BY BMI THEMSELVES.. Check the site. You might disagree with me all you wish, the BMI thdmselves state that you are wrong.

Yep and I called them and talked with them on several occasions regarding this. They said otherwise.

Correct. The PROS collect higher fees from venues with karaoke. Well, if the venue was honest and told them they had karaoke.

Now the enforcement by the PROS is not what it should be, in my opinion. I'm quite sure that many restaurants, bar, nightclub etc. are not paying the fee's even for playing cd's etc., let alone live bands or karaoke.
