Most KJ's that have them do so for two reasons:

1) When first starting out, they were a cheap set with an eclectic choice of titles, and were a could way to find out what was popular in their area without a huge investment. I still recommend them for that purpose only...

2) BECAUSE they are so cheap, many singers have them at home to practice and party with, and when they go out they like to to sing the version ( whatever the quality) they are used to. Just another service offered by the KJ..

This also why I keep ALL versions of tracks in my books.

i'm with you here, i keep all versions for the same reason. many singers are used to them if not from home, then from the smaller shows they have frequented in the past. and they do surprisingly have some gems in their collections. their version of Hell Is For Children kills the CB and SC versions. but overall......eh.

SGB's Hell's Bell's is by far the best version. Also, Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident) is also the best - but for whatever reason, the volume is rather low.

Both were All Hits songs before renamed to SGB.
Hells Bells they cop the entire original begining part of the original song until the drums come in then add their own cheesiness to it - it's not the worst All Hits did. Although this particular one I have no better version to compare to & it doesn't get done hardly at all to warrant buying a replacement so it's good enough.

I wondered about that I have both of them songs on the original All Hits disc's the version of SOLD is one of the best versions I have heard.

See I still prefer SC's version of Sold over the AH personally.

SGB has the best version of Barracuda, as well.

Oh yes, they do have their gems ( no pun intended.. ) Son Of A Preacher Man, and I absolutely LOVE their version of We Belong with those thunder crashes.....

I keep all versions, but will not ls them simply because of cost of book printing. If someone WANTS another version, I have a page in the book letting them know they can ask if I have it. When I listed all version, 9 out of 10 times the person requesting the song would tell me "give the version you think is best". SO that is what I now list (for the last 15 years).

Man I honestly cannot hear what you guys are hearing on the SGB 'best version' songs listed on this page. "Call Me' sounds like a distorted MIDI player IMO.

Over-exposure to loud volume levels can damage your audio receptors you know!

Ah that explains it! :P So the keyboard guitar sound from that track is actually just because of my damaged hearing.

All Hits did the same with Jimi Hendrix's "Red House" which I found interesting.

Oh man- Idol Makers makes Backstage look like the top of the line. I have yet to hear even a tolerable track from them...

Can't be any better than the All Hits - it's the same music as SGB. I don't know about Idol Makers so can't comment on first hand experience, but heard those are pretty much garbage to begin with.

Hmmmmm, not long age, over at ODJT and OKJT, when we were looking to start karaoke, all the long term members and experts told us to BUY SGB, and other manu's. of course, but it was always suggested to get SGB to start with. Kinda funny.

BTW, missed the answer to who produced and or owns SGB. I know CB clams to own the rights to it, who did they buy it from??

(not much into the banter here, just like the show and tons of information ya'll give ty)
