I know this subject was discussed before but just wondering if anyone
has seen or actually had themesleves recorded on CD at karoke night  recently ?
For arguments sake lets not talk about the legality issues.

As a singer would you like a recording of yourself at Karaoke Night
Would you want the recording THAT NIGHT or  would you wait until the
next week to get the CD?  Would you pay for a GOOD recording?

As a KJ are you providing this service --What equipment is required ?

Hell no :O  but our customers wanted it.
jamkaraoke wrote:

We gave it to them the next week.
jamkaraoke wrote:

We charged them $5.00/track. Some people waited until they had a full 15/16 tracks before they wanted the CD.

PC, soundcard & CDR/W. No biggie, seeing that we host on PC

Beer for breakfast,   It's the most important meal of the day Jam !

(all depends.  If I was in fact able to sing well, I might pay for a recording assuming I thought it'd be run directly from a board, even live.  Otherwise I'd likely go with a cheap tape)

I had one tape made and one CD made. But the fact is that I didn't ask for either one. The KJ made the tape and handed it to me at the end of the night. I didn't ask or really feel the need to have it but he just gave it to me. I think I tipped him like 3 dollars, feeling like I should do something. The tape was a normal bias tape

The CD the guy called me over after I sang two songs and he said he wanted me to listen to something (on his headphones). I took the headphones and listened and there I was(!) -singing.  He asked if I would be interested in keeping the CD going and I said how much? He replied that it was normally $10 but that he would complete the night for $5.00. I think I wound up with 4 songs for $5.00. I don't even know where that CD is anymore. I'm fairly sure I still have it somewhere.

CD karaoke deals are okay if the price is right but I have seen venues where they want $19.95 to do it. That's too much. I barely had an interest at $5.00.

The funny thing is that if I had known what the KJ was doing I would have chosen music that I knew and felt comfortable with, not first time out songs that would possibly be shaky.  :)

I agree with Jeff on these points mentioned above, knowing in advance so as to pick good music, price.

These guys were in small venues and were probably just trying to pick up a few extra dollars for the night. I didn't see them offer to anyone else. Maybe they figured I looked like the biggest egomaniac in the place and knew I would say yes.

I think you would definately have to tell people in advance about any recording .
I'm not quite sure what is involved but I think a price of $5 for one song or $10 for the night isn't too much ?   I can see the "pro-singers" wanting to hear themselves
or a CD to show friends and family etc.  I can also see GROUPS out for the night
for parties etc wanting a recording of them all drunk and singing.  LMAO  LMAO

I have the PC but did'nt know you could run the mixer right to the PC ?
Ithought you needed one of those CD RECORDERS

ALLSTAR, So you indicate you've done this before ?  DO you still?
Was it worth it $$$ ---Did your singers appreciate it ???
Is is a favorable addition to a Karaoke Show???

We recorded the full show, regardless.

My desk has a studio out that I connected to a recording line in on the PC. I added an additional soundcard for that purpose.

I use CEP to record the show. Enough HD space to record for hours and hours.

jamkaraoke wrote:

Yep, every show we do. We stopped it now, because we are moving out of state.

jamkaraoke wrote:

The singers like it. Worth the money? It's a break positive. Not much, but it keeps the bar owner happy, because people keep coming back. Other KJ's tried to take our job, but the bar owner wouldn't even talk to them. They gave us a huge farewell party when we told them we're stopping our gig.

To us it most certainly is.

If someone wants to be recorded, no problem and no charge.  If they don't have a CD we will sell them one for a buck.

I record people all the time at my shows. I use a DVD recorder Pluggged into my utilty output directly off my board and the sound is amazing. I don't charge anyone I keep track of all my customers through E-mail addy's. When I get a good version of a song they sang I rip it then convert to a 196 MP3 then post it on an Esnips account then send them the link to pick it up. This way I can also send them E-mails of up coming events and whatnot. My customers deserve to get their songs for free after all they already support me just by coming to the shows and drinking and making all my shows a hit. I would not even consider charging them for a recording EVER. This is 1 of my MANY thank you's to them. You should all consider this with your own customers. Remember without them you would be sitting on your a## at home watching American Idol instead of working.

Check out the sound of my recordings if you wish here:

Frankly who would want a substandard recording done in a less than perfect recording environment?
If one is to pay then you might as well pay for studio time if you rate yourself

I think you missing the point --Its more of a "souvenir" rather than a STUDIO RECORDING.   Even at $5 bucks --heck thats the cost of one beer .
Maybe FREE is very good promo ...maybe my show would grow if people came down for a free CD.>>>BUT THEN AGAIN I WOULD HAVE TO GET PAID MORE ..
I would rather ask for $5 --ONLY IF THE SINGER WANTS ONE  lol

HEY TIM
WHAT EQUIP ARE YOU USING ?

VERY VERY good marketing RD

I know when I first started singing karaoke if I had had a chance to listen back to myself it would have put me off completely. The average person doesnt understand the difference between what they hear live and what they hear recorded. As a radio dj it took me months and months before the ear was trained well enough to overcome this.
I just feel that for many it would be too much of a reality check

Just take a look at my gallery for the equipment.  Simply out from the board into the DVD recorder.  Pretty simple.

Simple but effective as you can tell by the recordings.

Just noticed the pics are old.  The tape machine is gone replaced by a DVD recorder.  Wired from headphones to the recorder.

You're asking the wrong people if we record to SS. I do and can record myself anytime. So I have no interest in it unless it is just given to me free.

Although I will say sometimes really drunken karaoke singing can be entertaining with the things said and all. It might be worth it for me to pay for a cd of such a night. And yes, I already have one tape of such a night.  LMAO

Bill
