Hey People,
I would like to mount my triple tray with the front panel flush with the front panels of the rest of the racked gear. But, because there in an overhang on either side of the front panel it will not sit in flush with the fron of the rack tray.
Does anyone know if I can remove there overhangs and not damage the unit?
I think those of you with the triple tray will understand what I mean, but I will post a picture if you don't. Please let me know.

Sorry Ice, Unfortuneatly that jvc front panel cannot be tight in the slightest, The drawers wont open and worse.
I have no idea why jvc/rsq made those face plates too fat to fit in a rack. I just go with the flow.
Maybe your only option would be a custom constructed rack box, I never tried to trim the plastic, But you may be flirting with the devil if you do.
What the hell. Just let it stick out a little bit, It won't affect your grades. BJC

I know it doesn't matter, but it looks kind stupid. I did jam a small screwdriver into the overhang and it appears that that plactic piece is separate from the rest of the front panel.
I guess if I get daring one day I may attempt it, but for now I will leaveit. Afterall, my first show is Saturday and I have more important things to do!!!

Actually, I just looked at it and all I have to do is use a dremel tool and notch out about an inch of that overhang, then it would fit.
Again, this is for another time!

Is the problem you don't like the way it looks? Or is the face plate obstructing the rack?. When I used an skb case the JVC did overhang but some rack COVERS allow just for that with a 2 inch depth.

Well, I DON"T like the way it looks. But, it also slightly obstructs the knobs of my compressor. Not really that big a deal.
The 2" deep rack tray would probably do it. Do you know where I can get one? Does Raxxess make one?

The 2" depth I was talking about concerns the cover and allows for the cover to completey cover the rack. I'm not sure of a way to have the JVC unit flush with the rest of the gear unless you customize something  . If your're using the TRAP shelf I think the face plate will always be a little too big.

Do what I did. Flip a rackmount shelf upside down, And put the player in from the back. So it sits just behind the rack bars.

I did have the tray flipped, Jim. But I got more gear and needed the space.
Oh well, I will eventually do something because it's buggin' me!!

The problem is that the faceplate is too large to fit into any rackshelf, Upside down or not.
I've heard of people "foam wedging" components into boxes, But I'm leary of it.
