Do any of you all use Winamp exclusively for hosting or for additional tasks, filler, home, personal use?

I was thinking about trying it. Anyone have the links right off hand?

Only plugins required are pacemaker and mp3g correct?

Negatives? Positives?

Winamp is VERY versatile! I use it for filler and DJing. I used to use it for hosting too.

Also, can you just download Winamp and Autokdj only, will that work?

I use the 2.8x version, but do use a newer version of pacemaker.

For people who are connecting to the Internet, don't use the old versions! There are several remote exploits targeting old versions of Winamp!

I am looking at possibly using Winamp 5.541 and the AutoKDJ plug-in. Have heard it was good but a little difficult to learn. Have finished loading my DJ library, haven't started with the CDGs yet. Am using RockIt Pro DJ for the regular music and like it a lot. Audiograbber to rip, which also seems to do CDGs. Finally joining the 21st Century!

AutoKdj right now is forced to use a specific naming format:
discid/t# - Artist - Title

I have heard that that may change. Might look into AUtoKDJ for the future.

All you need to run karaoke on your computer is the winamp download and the AutoKDJ download which contains all the plugins that are needed to run karaoke inside the install.

AutoKDJ also has a kiosk for entering songs into the que from an outside computer. It is the only low cost program that has this feature. Only Karaoke-Go Round has this as well.

Waitaminute... There may be, but I've been using the same exact 2.8x version for years, and never upgraded. But I also approve every upgrade on my PC.

My antivirus and pop up blocker stop any invaders... so far!

Not true. You don't need Autokdj to run winamp karaoke. There is a shareware .cdg plugin and the pacemaker which is all I use.

My understanding is that AutoKDJ is a freeware.

I tried the newer version of pacemaker but it seemed to make the music "warble", for lack of a better term, so I went back to the older version of pacemaker. Sometimes newer isn't always better. Just an opinion.

hmmm, I haven't experienced that yet, Bob. I'll post the version I'm using a bit later (when I get home). I liked the newer version I got because it has a feature to remove vocals, where my old one didn't. It saves me a lot of time on which REGULAR songs I want to devocalize, or try to do so.

If you run a corrupted MP3 file, that is when it happens. As long as you never run across a nasty one, you will be fine. Your habits are probably good enough to survive. But for most people, it is Russian roulette.

Knightshow, I was responding to the guy asking if all he needed to download was autokdj and winamp. I never said it was the only way to use winamp for karaoke.

I use Winamp exclusively for DJ and Karaoke and have been for years. It's an older version but can't remember which one at the moment. I have a few plug-ins installed also (pacemaker, etc.) but that's it.

the autokjdj allows you to have a search-able database for karaoke tracks rather than just loading each defined track as needed.

there is a pay plugin for playing Cdg's. It's suppose to work quite well. It's probably worth having

Karafun is free and will play discs and zip files. It seems to be "hit or miss" when it comes to the discs
