Hi All,

Where would you rate the following CDG manufacturers in terms of sound quality, production, and sounding most like the original recording?

Lets use the following scale:

Sound Choice = 10

Sweet Georgia Brown = 1

From all accounts Sound Choice is the best so they will represent the top of the scale. There are probably manufacturers that are worse than SWB, but lets discount those and have SWB represent the bottom.

Please rate the following manufacturers on the scale from 1 (worst) to 10(best):

Sunfly
Supercore
Top Hits Monthly
Pop hits Monthly
Northstar
Music Maestro
Priddis
Top Tunes
Star Disc
Song Factory
Legends

I am curious to see how you all rate these. If I have left off any notable manufacturers, good OR bad, let me know. :)

Patrick

I personally shouldn't do this but here goes...

SC 9
Sunfly 5
Supercore 4
Top Hits Monthly 7
Pop hits Monthly 6
Northstar 4
Music Maestro 4
Priddis 8
Top Tunes 5
Star Disc 6
Song Factory 5
Legends 4
Chartbuster 8
DK 6
Amerising 3
Pioneer 7
Backstage 4
U Best 2
Helluvadisk 2
SGB 2

Actually nothing could be worse than a Midi CDG that is Homemade or downloaded for the computer. So anything professional deserves a score better than 1.

SC ..................... 8 - 9
Sunfly ................ 5 - 8 (depending on the age... the newer ones are VERY good!
Supercore ........... 6 (considering their a smattering of a few of these brands!)
Top Hits Monthly .. 6
Pop hits Monthly .. 8
Northstar ............ can't rate, don't own any
Music Maestro ..... 4 - 7 (again, the newer are really good!)
Priddis ................ 6 - 8
Top Tunes ........... 1 (only because of their web association - many people like their stuff... but I'm very picky about where I spend my money.
Star Disc ............ 5
Song Factory ................ don't own any, have heard these are DK tracks.
Legends ....................... 6 - 9 Again, based on newer releases, they're really quite good.
Chartbuster .................. 8 (COUNTRY ONLY)
DK ............................... 6
Amerising ..................... 7
Pioneer ......................... 7 - 8 (newer tracks (95-97) I'd put at a 5 though!)
Backstage .............................. 4
U Best .................................... 2
Helluvadisk ............................. 2
SGB ....................................... 2

and let me add:

Sing To The World ................... 7 - 10
SAVA ..................................... 6 (Good for tracks that other people haven't gotten released yet)
SAVP ..................................... 4 (sole exception - SAVP29!! - that's an 8!)
Nutech (Karaoke Hits, KJ Tools, MEG) . 3 - 7
All Hits ................................... 6 (maybe the same company as Helluva!)
Dangerous ............................. 6

Matt--please explain your remarks about Top Tunes. I'm curious as to what you mean.

Thanks!

This is good! :D Lets keep it going!!

Maybe, after everyone has put in their 2 cents, I can develop some kind of consensus; this could help people like myself just getting into the business.

Thanks!

Mike, email me... I've spoken about it at length before, and honestly don't want to give them ANY more press, bad or otherwise!

Well Icenine, You've already given a pre rating before my rating by saying SC 10 AND SGB 01

Therefore I feel your rating scale Is tainted, Can we start again giving all manufacturers a fair chance?

I just used this scale based on everything I have read on this site, KJ. The scale might be tainted, but I am not trying to conduct a scientific experiment here. :) I just wanted to get different people's opinions on the different MFG's so I could put together a consensus.

If you would like to add anything at all I'm sure it will be valuable. Just rate then on a scale from 1-10.

Patrick

Pat,
Never mind KJ Johnson he's kinda like the "Andy Rooney" of KJ's with even darker humor" his bark is worse than his bite. he sounds serious. but it's not. He really doesn't have a clue how we are.

I could only give sound choice a 9 in their music, but a -0 in their use policy

I give Priddis a 10 and a 10 on their fair use policy

Sound choice is too greedy, and exploitive.

chartbusters (because I do lot of Country) is about an 8

no comment on any others.

Yes DR D, I agree that Sound choice charges are high. Recently the foundations and Bricks have dropped in price, Almost In half.

It seems SC is making major strides in that department.

Brian, And the rest of all you great people, Let me put it this way:

I haven't experienced every disc of every brand on the planet, Do I have the right to say one is crappolla?? Or to condemn a whole brand??

KJ Johnson,
If you feel it's so fair to Judge us, the KJ's then let's see your ratings of the CDG's and Media out there?
