First off, I am not all that proficient in techno-lingo, so I will keep this simple.

I am looking for a system that I can put in my basement and possibly use on the occassional outing (soccer team gatherings, pool parties etc...). I would also like whatever I buy to double as a movie player for the tv in the basement.

I tend to buy quality when I do purchase something as quality tends to last longer, but I am not in the market for a massive system. In fact, I was thinking of hooking whatever I buy to the mini sound system (portable) I bought last year for the basement.

I realize that this is trivial stuff to the many experts out there, but if anyone can make one or two solid suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

For what it is worth, we are up in Canada (for shipping purposes et...)

Many thanks :D

Coach,
First, what can you afford?
Second, the chances are that your home sound system won't like karaoke.
Live voice is VERY hard on home speakers.
Third, karaoke doesn't like surround sound. Surround sound causes feed back.
This doesn't mean that you can't supplement a karaoke system with your home system, but it must be just that, a supplement. If this set-up is to be used by teens, you can EXPECT them to damage the home system's speakers.
Give hard consideration to keeping your home entertaiment system seperate from karaoke.
Don't be too much in love with the idea of stereo.
Post your budjet and don't go off and buy the first thing that someone tries to sell you.

Yep,

Kojak and I had many good discussions. The result -- a kick (@$%&#!) sound system.
