I would tell the Old Guy to sign the song up, OR, I would just put it under his name, at the beginning of the night. I will allow repeats, ONLY if the person who originally sang the song has left.

Karaoke singers don't own songs. If they're arrogant enough to think that they do, let them sing the same song right after and see if they can do it better. Unless they really nail it to perfection, the odds are that the crowd will boo them for the repeat performance and they'll learn their lesson anyway. Problem solved.

I have two older guys. One in their upper 70s and one in his lower 80s at the same show. I introduce them as Gentleman Dave and Gentleman Jerry. Older women I preface their name with Lady. They immediately get respect from those who are prone to be respectful and everyone else tends to follow suit. When they are through with their performance I will say something endearing about them as I do about most. They are genuinely my idols. That seems to take care of anyone stepping on them.

I most generally never have aholes at my shows, but if I do I treat them as they apparently wish to be treated or ignore their request. I can get a lot with just a look. They get it pretty quick and may not return for a period of time, but when they do return, maybe a month or two later, they know protocol and decorum. Good bartenders cut people off in ways appropriate to the individual and so do I.

First of all, a 90 year old man coming out to sing karaoke is quite an accomplishment in and of itself. If this so called "Diva" can be that heartless and spiteful, whose only regard is himself, and is not willing to compromise, I would give him the boot. Most singers would understand but there's always one arrogant son of a (@$%&#!) who makes it all about them. And this, we don't need.

Alan and I certainly don't agree about Bose...but on this I agree with Alan...absolutely.

Yeah, I was on board with the "sorry, no one owns karaoke songs" crowd until you said there's a dude actually trying to antagonize an old man. You have to be a special kind of bastard to try and rile up anyone for kicks, much less an elderly fellow who enjoys his karaoke.

I do like someone else's suggestion of putting the old guy's name in for the song in the beginning of the night.
