hi hope your well

sorry if this is a silly question

but when you have printed your karaoke book and binded it etc

when it comes to adding new songs how do you put them in the printed book

as it seems when i add it shunts the pages by 1 or 2 do i have to reprint from that page onward everytime i add new songs ?

I'm surprised you still do books, I was one of the last to have books and that was years ago?

To answer your question I had color coded books Blue by Song Title, Red for Artist. To avoid having to reprint the books every so often I developed a purple book as well for new material. I used the KJ Pro to organize the material and printed the original copy, which I had office Depot make additional copies, and of course bought binders and completed the project. It is very expensive to have someone do the work for you, it is a matter of sweat equity. Most people today just tell the KJ what they want to sing, or have their own personal discs.

Happily I'm long retired from hosting, and I'm glad I don't have to haul books around anymore.

I always used binders and sleeves. I found that every time I added songs I would have to print new books when I tried binding them.
I now use a remote requests service. Always up to date and cheaper than books or slips.

I gotta say, I miss books, and find it charming when a place has it.

At the end patrons stopped using the books and just told me what they wanted to sing, so carrying around the books for the few that wanted them became unnecessary.

Printed songbooks is actually the way backward. They get ruined and contaminated. They get abused. People get their slimy, greasy hands all over them. Drinks get spilled on them.

I have people just tell me what they want to sing, or I use the phone app. No books to carry with you and no more wasting money. For the people that aren't savvy with their smart phones, just give them slips and let them list the songs they want to sing.

You can always set up a kiosk for people to turn in their song requests, or you can set up something using your smartphone, depending on which hosting program you use. But take it from my 25 years of experience... songbooks are not the way to go... especially during these times of Covid when they will be shared.

I agree with Alan especially with the COVID-19 reason for going remote requests. It protects both the singers and the host.

Then why are you asking for our advice? You're apparently not taking it and seem to know more than us who have much more experience than you.

Not using books has nothing to do with who's using a smartphone. All they have to do is tell you what they want to sing, which has nothing to do with smartphones. Is that too difficult.

I have stated all the reasons for avoiding using books, but if you want to waste your money, please go ahead and do so.

P.S. Don't bother asking for advice if you're not going to listen to it.

dont get my sign up history twisted with how long i have been in the game etc etc

please also note that in my contract it states the venue has to pay for any damages caused to equipment this also includes the books being destroyed.

please note this thread was about the reprinting of books with new songs being added not scrapping the book altogether.

Good luck with venues paying for damages to equipment, owners sign contracts, I worked for years with just a hand shake?

Maybe for your antiquated brain.
Nobody uses physical books in my area. In fact most just take the requests verbally without any means to know what they have but most also use you tube to be able to access any karaoke song that is available. Granted not everyone does it but most do. I don't use it.
I still believe that physical books are on the way out not the future.
I personally only see cons when it comes to physical books.
Costs a lot of money to create, easy way to get the virus due to sharing books.
Have to wait to update
Pros to online lists
Costs is lower.
Can update instantly.
If it's a remote requests app then
You eliminate paper slips and miscommunication between host and singers.

Sad to say, it's what you get from some of these members on here. I think they need to learn a little kindness and courtesy for sure.

Then you can set up kiosks or offer cheap tablets with the books on them. I used books 28 years up until covid hit. When we returned I went strictly phone app and will be offering kiosks soon, but have pdf downloads on the website for people that want to look at old fashioned books - but electronically which are always updated to the day I add new songs. I may keep a couple books by request (when we can offer them again) for those that do not want to use (or dont have) phones but most are getting on board with the electronic method.
