I like it. Seems like a bit of extra work, but it looks cool and probably won't change your book length that much.

I hardly ever see song books any more. KJs with 300,000 songs or more would have to print out an encylopedia with separate books for each letter of the alphabet.LOL These days you just tell the KJ what song you want to sing and he/she just says: okay.

Yeah, and it's harder to steal paper and ink than it is to steal all that music.

Waste of paper, waste of toner, waste of time, and extra weight of paper and plastic to carry around in general.

Honestly, I have some seriously outdated books. I got tired of printing dead tree editions every 6 months because they get beer spilled all over them, stolen (yes this has happened twice), used in a manner not consistent with reading a book, etc.

And while I have digital songbooks, some people just need to flip pages, specially older folks.

So the old books stay for a base, and I tell people to come see me about new stuff. If we have it, I will set them up with it.

stealing books always confused me.
why? it just seems so stupid to take something with no use except for one specific use.

I have a couple of small books with about 1200 core songs in it. I tell singers that I have more songs than that and if they don't see what they want to just come back up and ask me. Using Karma I can look up a song in a couple of seconds and add it to their name. We don't always have good phone signal so an online book would be pretty useless to me. So i don't reprint those books unless they get totally trashed.

if they are your singers, they could be taking them to go through at home and get an idea of what to sing. Competitors used to take them on occasion to get ideas for songs they may not have/want.

I just took my song books to Officedepot to be comb bound. I did the page printing on my duplex printer and then took them to be bound. To print 8 books (4 Artist, 4 Title) I used (3) 500 sheet packages of Hammer Mill 28 lb paper ($54), 1 toner cartridge (rmfd $20). It took 2 hours to print.

I had Officedepot color print cardstock, for the cover, on both sides for all 8 books. That cost to bind, along with the covers and combs, was $55. The total cost was $119.

The picture of the cd's isn't even 1/2 of what I actually own, but it looks like a lot more than it is.

Initially, I printed out two books; Listed by Artist and Listed by Song Title. After a while I did a reprint and realised then that this was something I had neither the time nor the inclination to repeat. So I left these books as is and started a Late Additions book which lists any new songs both by Artist and Song Title. I make both the main books and the Late Additions available and have found my 'audience' - I do karaoke in a domestic setting only - tend to quickly scan the new titles first. If nothing there takes their fancy they then revert to the main books. The Late Additions list is so small at present (six sheets of A4) I can afford to print two copies and inset one copy at the rear of the main books.
This works very well for me. I suppose there may come a time when the Late Additions book grows to such an extent that updating it becomes a chore. If that ever happens (I doubt it will) then I'll probably incorporate the Late Additions into the main books and start over with a reprint of the main books and a new Late Additions book.
