I bought my dongle version around January of Last year. Can't wait to get the new version on my show laptop because it only has three USB ports, that will free up one for imports and charging of my phone.
Dongle will go to my other laptop that will soon be my second rig laptop.

Just remember that you can't upgrade to the dongless version and still use your dongle. You'll have to purchase another copy of Compuhost to run it on your second system using the dongle.

You scared me for a second. The dongle version is moving to my laptop that has four USB ports, I'm buying the new dongless version for my show pc.

I was concerned about leaving the CH dongle world for the internet licensed world, as I have seen the pros & cons of both at my day job (we make & sell products that use both technologies). That being said, I finally made the leap and converted a few months ago and it was, and has been completely painless.

And what is the back up plan if it's friday afternoon on a holiday weekend and your computer's drive dies?

I don't like "internet only-ware" at all, it's too much relying on too thin of thread.

Well I would just take my home computer's copy of the program and return it to the vault so that I could load Compuhost on a new laptop.

Well, it's internet licensed...not "internet only-ware". You only need to be connected once to authorize the machine.

The backup plan? A backup laptop! You are authorized to have CH licensed on two machines. I would just fire up my spare, which is always with me.

And do you keep your songs on an external drive and what if that dies? How many "spares" of that do you have?. (which are "unauthorized copies" of other mfg's trademarks)

Not trying to be argumentative, but this simply illustrates that no matter how "redundant" you want to be in providing non-stop service in case of an unforeseen event, you are infringing (according to some mfg's) just by protecting your business....

Just like using a burned disc instead of your original on a day-to-day basis.

Your sincerity is heartfelt I'm sure. :puke:

So how many "backup drives" do you have? one? two?

Are you going to pay me for my time for this audit?

(see how that works?) :D

I wouldn't need to since I'm not "auditing" you on the threat of a lawsuit nor am I fishing for evidence against you. You must have me confused with your lessor...

I'm simply asking what is your contingency plan in case there is a failure of sorts with your system(s). You have one for the laptop, do you have one for your songs...?

Just to surprise the few that may not know it:

Some years ago I actually ripped a bunch of my discs to a laptop for use at tiny house paties where work space was at a premium. I used the ORIGINAL PCDJ/KJ Red, ( not the later Red that came out at the same time as Blue). No bells and whistles, but it worked just fine, extremely easy to learn ( an hour), and did everything that I needed. If you find the old software anywhere, it's probably very cheap or free by now.

I would still use it for house parties, but when the lappy crapped out, I tossed it. Not about to re-rip a collection that is now around 3 times the size it was... Definitely good for a PC beginner though.

In my area, most of the PC based hosts ( I'm disc based, Newbie) are using compuhost, and they all seem quite happy with it.

It all depend what you want or need. You can get Kara-Fun either free, or for something like $20. Really meant for home use, but you could use it for a show as well. It has selectable backgrounds and a built in virtual mixer ( which- like all virtual mixers- doesn't come close to the real thing, but it's a learning experience.)

For those of you considering what software to buy, yes compuhost is expensive. It's an investment that will make hosting easier for you. Keep in mind that the add ons Invicion have (and can only use with their compuhost software) should make you think before you buy another software. At some point you may change your mind as you would want the add ons. If you decide to switch, not only do you pay the premium for compuhost and it's add ons, you just threw away the money you initally spent on some other software. Just food for thought.

Those of you that have compuhost, please message the invicion folks and let them know they need to make the KJMP locked songs show up on their karaoke kiosk. Let's keep pushing them.

Quick question about Compuhost and the Compuhost Remote Kiosk- Do you have to pay to continue receiving updates after a year? I have to do this for Siglos Pro. I did not find anything on this when I read the info on the program.

Thanks

I bought two copies three years ago, and have not had to pay an upgrade fee since. I did have to buy the kiosk, but there was no upgrade fee for Compuhost itself.

I never did buy the latest version of Hoster or Siglos Pro, as they charge for upgrades after a certain period.

MTU Hoster is free for upgrades as well for fixes. If it's revisional upgrade - like from a 4.0 to 5.0, I believe it's either free or a $$ discount within 12 months of purchase - not sure.

Great ....Thanks for the info about yearly update fees.
I am trying Compuhost with Remote Kiosk and I am going to try the Tricerasoft version of kiosk SW to make sure it works with Siglos Pro this week.

I actually got the new touchscreen kiosk working this weekend with a wireless & 4 port router and I believe it will be a SUPER addition to my show!!! I am excited...
