I run an allen and heath gl2400 32 channel mixer at church.

it's quite the learning experience running that big of a console, plus you can do a lot more with it compared to a smaller 8-12 channel mixer.

Nah it's no different than learning a smaller console. Once you learn 1 channel, all the rest are the same.

I worked on the A&H 40 channel 8 bus at one of my shows that I used their house system. It was fun.
Biggest board I actually ever brought to a show - I was running sound for a band that day as well was my Alesis X2 24 channel. It's more geared for recording but made a hell of a live board as well. It was one of their diamond in the rough's.
