Thanks, that is good to know.

Depending on the license offered.
1) if its an OEM license (Tied to a machine, non transferable) if the machine dies, then so does the license.

2) if retail > transferable to any machine just like the GEM set is also transferable to another "Qualified KJ"

3) Volume licensing such as the non profit are tied to a corporation/business sorry, non transferable. and these are leased licenses I'm sure Pep has special discounts for 501c3 certified non profits.

In your case Gen x you fall under the OEM. no expiry until the machine dies. non transferable.

Also keep in mind, Microsoft licensing Vs. Pep licensing > 1:1 (One machine / One licence)

Developers get the best deal, all MS software unlimited installs on unlimited machines Virtual or real machines. (MSDN Subscription) very similar to Karafun Pro subscription unlimited ipads, macbooks, windows, or android.

Actually, there is a large market for "Refurbished" OEM Windows machines.
So your statement may be less than 100% accurate.
Aerospace/Military/Medical, business class machines are surplussed every day.
The government contract calls for removal of the hard drive, crush it and scrap the rest.
I buy machines every day, insert a hard drive, and use the OEM disk to install the software.
Would you like to buy one? Intel i3, i5, i7 laptops and towers are available, most are Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Send me a PM if interested.. Priced right..
Oh, I sold and installed one today, Dell Quad core Intel i5, 3.20 Ghz, 8 gig ram, one TB hard drive, DVDRW, Dual DVI video card. $250.00
So, let me know.. :)

jdmeister thank you for mentioning this I completely forgot that Microsoft does offer a program for refurbishers (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/refurbishedpcs)

But as far as the OEM PC's are alive and breathing, the OEM license is still valid reguardless of how many times the PC gets sold.

On the other note > Pep has a similar deal with the GEM License Stickers.
The Gem tracks "are only valid tracks if they are installed on to the hard drive or storage device that contains the valid stickers. (If the storage device Dies, the exception is you can request new set of stickers for your new storage device)

Another reason for new stickers is if you had the misfortune of having the drive or laptop that it is on stolen. You need to provide a copy of the police report but they will send you replacement stickers for the new drive.

jdmeister ... that's a pretty fair deal for an i5. Do you ever come across something hot rodded like a desktop with a Xeon Platinum 8180 processor? Now something like that for $250 would be like hitting the lottery.

Perhaps you should drop the crack pipe..
While I do see Dual Quad core Xeon systems come through,
(Yes, that's 8 cores) they are mostly running @ 3.40 Ghz, +/-,
24 gig ram, 1 TB hard drive, and they go for
$325.00 plus any shipping. (Heavy, eh?)
But no, not the 8180.
However, these are top notch for CAD, Video edit, karaoke, etc.

$325 is still a great price for a dual quadcore Xeon.

Let me know when you get another one through..... I would need one for video editing/processing... and it wouldn't have to be a laptop.... a small footprint desktop would work too.

The Xeon systems almost never are shipped in a laptop..
The heat seems to be a killer there.

I do have a Lenovo laptop, (W520 model) 15 inch LCD, Intel i7, 8 cores, Running at 2.20 Ghz,
5.9 on the "Windows Experience Index" 500 gig hard drive, DVDRW, webcam, new battery. USB 3.0, Firewire, display port, SD card reader.

$350.00 plus shipping.. Your UPS number ships cheaper. else, $40.00
The "Correct" Power adapter included, (Highest output they make).
The "W" stands for "Workstation"..Also has MS Office 2016..
Install a SSD drive, and it's a rocket..

Just a note to let you know I'm happy with my recent purchase. Impressive specs, HP Pavilion, dv7 64bit, 17.3 inch screen, AMD A8-35620M Radeon HD Graphics/quad core. Clean, fast, great price!

Thanks again, JD.

HP in the professional world of digital audio DJ/KJ should not be allowed. I also have a pile of HP Elite / HP Pavilion / Toshibs / Dell / ACER / ASUS laptops all "piled up in the corner".

Most have over heating issues. why do people waste their money. There are plenty of Panasonic Toughbooks out there selling at a decent price. DJ/KJ with total confidence with out the worry of failure.

By the way if anyone needs parts for HP laptops, I have a closet full.

I see a ton of those "Consumer Grade" systems that overheat when used in a business environment.
The majority of the systems I buy are "Business Class" with the larger heat sinks and fans to support full time use.
I have some customers that only buy ToughBooks, due to the nasty duty they work in.
The HP laptops (EliteBook, ProBook) with an aluminum case is quite the machine.
KJs often require the 17" screen, and many OEMs stopped building that size.

The HP EliteBook still come in a 15.3" size, and is rock solid.

High power is not necessary for running karaoke or DJ work, BUT reliability is. My favorite laptop is a 11 year old Toshiba with AMD dual core, 3 GB (usable) ram, 32bit. The hard drives have been upgraded to Seagate Hybrids and that's it!

It is built like a tank with extremely solid USB ports and VGA ports with screw inserts. When running Karma it might spike to 50% CPU momentarily, but quickly settles down to under 10%. The key is to use the computer for running ONLY your show..... nothing else. When I open up msconfig I only have 17 services running, yet everything I need running works perfectly, including internet, if needed.

High power does not equate to high reliability. HP for the most part does not fill my needs. MSI does, Asus used to be very good but no more. I have an HP ProBook that is very nice, but the USB ports are extremely flimsy.

I have to agree with you. These elitebooks are very good accept for one small thing. One of the kj's accidentally closed the lid with a pencil in there and cracked the lcd screen where the clock area displays. still works good other than that part of the screen.
