Hi, everyone.

My son in-law does karaoke 6 nights a week. Recently he was told that some of the establishments were sent letters regarding the kj needing discs to go with the music He has on his computer. I have quite a few discs including the black and white Sound Choice discs. There are other discs I purchased a while back that are yellow, green, blue, etc. Does anyone know, roughly, about how much those discs would be worth to a KJ that needs them due to those letters? Thank you in advance. :)

most of the hosts here are already legal! meaning we maintain a 1 to 1 compliance of disc's to songs ripped to the Hard Drive.

you would be better off to offer them on ebay or craigslist.

here in the forums even if we purchase new or used disc's, most of us are only willing to pay $1-2 a disc.

you could try posting a list of your disc numbers and let members make you offers.

If you have SC2220 and SC2267, both are weird al disc's i have been looking for.
shoot me a pm if you have them and i'll make you an offer.

But if your son-in-law's computer tracks were pulled from those same discs (not sure if that's what you meant?) then you or he has to retain them for him to remain legal. If I misunderstood the situation, nevermind :)

ASSuming he's got a loaded hard drive you probably don't have anywhere near enough discs to make him legal.

He's probably going to end up renting a PEP Gem series for a few thousand.

If you sell your discs EBay would be more profitable

All he has to be concerned about is having the Sound Choice and ChartBuster discs to match 1:1 with his computer If he is multi-rigging, then he needs to have a 2nd set of SC and CB discs to match 1:1 with that system as well. Any other brand is not under PEP/SC's rights/jurisdiction/wants/desires to check for.

I know! So she should already know about what is and isn't needed.

I find it quite interesting that the person that sent the letters has been absolutely mute.

Why would you find that interesting?

Besides, what would I say?

You know that thing Kurt said, that you criticized him for saying, about how suits drive sales? This is what he was talking about.

In the last month or so, we've sent warning letters in two major cities where we've never taken action to date. All of a sudden, we get a bunch of HELP license applications from those areas.

It is only the threat of legal action that spurs people to pay for what they use.

Why? All kameragurl asked, was what we thought the value of another set of SC discs would be worth to a KJ in need (due to those letters). She didn't say or ask about anything else regarding it. Sounded to me like she just wants to make a fast buck over someone else's issues.

I wouldn't accuse the OP of being out for a fast buck

She said it was her son in law, so she deserves the benefit of a doubt on her intentions.

And that's the same logic that spurred you into writing a hefty settlement check to a publisher.

I'll bet none of these letters were addressed to venues in Wisconsin, Illinois or Indiana.

Perhaps you should (or your son in law's venues should) contact the attorney below and talk with him about it since he has a LOT of experience with these letters:

I don't know about that. I'll happily apologize if I'm wrong, but this is how I am reading it....

kameragurl posted a brief description of the SC discs she has/owns, and then wrote:

She didn't write, "Can someone help me fill in the missing gaps in my Son-in-Law's library?".

I am so happy to hear this. This is awesome. I would love for you to send out these letters to every bar that does karaoke in every single state. And while this may not eliminate pirate hosts overnight, it's a start. Thanks Mr. Harrington and SC/PEP for finally taking some action.

The problem is that they might get good people fired from their shows. People like me, who do not use SC, do not deserve to lose our jobs just for your fight against pirates.
