Hi all,

This is probably a question for Karaokeware.com, but I thought I'd start here first. I searched and couldn't find anything. So here goes:

I bought Compuhost V.1 (the one with the USB dongle) in September of 2008 from Invicion Software for 187.95.
In December 2012 I paid 79.95 to upgrade to V.2. It seems like going dongle-less was an option then but I didn't do it because iirc there was an extra cost involved.
Now I see that V.3 is out, and it would cost me 99.95 to upgrade to it.

I've been reading a lot the past few days about software and playing with the MTU Hoster demo. I don't know that I like it any more than CH, but probably like it at least as much, and here's my dilemma: they're running a Memorial Weekend sale through tomorrow morning where you can buy it for 89.99. Then I got to thinking, if I could sell my CH license I could offset a some of that cost. Hence my question.

I don't want this to turn into a CH vs. Hoster thread, and I'm not trying to do anything illegal like I've cloned the dongle or something, I'm just thinking about switching programs and getting the latest version for the cheapest cost. I'm not a KJ, just a basement singer and do the occasional neighborhood party at the clubhouse.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

As long as the dongle is still working I don't see any problem with selling it to someone. In fact I'd be interested, I personally prefer the dongle.

is paying for upgrades the only thing keeping you from staying with compuhost?

mtu also charges for upgrades, you buy it and you are allowed like 2yrs worth of free upgrades then you have to purchase an upgrade again.

so i don't get what you are trying to avoid.

I took advantage of MTU's Hoster special. I like the software about the same as I do Tricerasoft's Swift Elite 4.0.

The reason I am switching... I misplaced the dongle, and was told they no longer sell or support SE4.0 stuff. I found the dongle some 2-3 days later (Panic Mode FTW!) but it made me reconsider my current software that runs on said dongle.

So now I will keep the dongle safe and secure and work off of Hoster in the near future.

I went through that as well. The price for a new dongle was outrageous, so I ended up buying a new updated program and getting the dongle free version.

I found the dongle later after I'd spent the money. No more dongles for me.

Why stop with a lanyaed, add a couple of ball bearings so you can reach in your pocket and quickly find your dongle and balls.

Karen, thanks for your reply. Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this thread.
I decided to not buy Hoster so I'm going to stick with CH for a while longer.
To answer Mightywiz's question, while I have CH V.2 and don't think I need to upgrade to V.3 at this time, my thought process was that I could buy Hoster, sell the dongle to recoup some (hopefully most) of the price, and thus have the latest Hoster, that as you pointed out then I'd have like 2 years of free upgrades.
So I'd have the latest version a software (Hoster) for essentially free, compared to having to pay $100 to get the latest version of a software (CH).
And like others commented, I don't like the dongle. Not "deal-breaker" don't like, but given the choice I'd rather not have it.
