This is to the manufactures (SC).....But any feel free to comment

Ok, reading busties thread (http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=20356) about a possible pirate coming into the bar where she host Karaoke gave me an idea....

Why don't the manufactures setup a website where a name/address of a venue can be submitted, and the the manufacture can send a canned form letter to the venue informing the manager/owner of the possible ramifications of hiring a KJ that uses pirated music, how to spot a illegal KJ, and what questions to ask a KJ when coming into their venue, ect.....

Not only would that be an easy way to possibly put a couple pirates out of business, it could also give the manufacture an idea of where to strike next if that are getting a lot of "hits" in a certain area. Also it will take pressure of legal KJs not having to tattle on the pirate to the owner/manager of a venue.

SC has a "Safe Harbor" program where venues are given the info you describe and can register with them and tell them what hosts they have. The idea is that the venue can keep from being named in a suit that way. There is also a section where a host can register.

When we registered, basically it was name, address, etc. and how many songs you had and how many were SC (aproximately). Then you get a number you can show venues. They did want a driver's license number and my boyfriend was not comfortable giving that over the internet so we didn't and there hasn't been any follow up yet. We had heard there would be mailings about the program to venues but don't think that has happened yet.

I was thinking of more an anonymous thing. There is one place in my are that hired a out of town KJ for cheap and he advertises over 100K songs. I am not wanting to make my name as a tattle tail, and you love for SC or someone to send a letter to the venue.

Or perhaps a canned letter KJs could download and mail to a venue ourselves.

Maybe I'm not following this? I think the SC plan is to send such a letter to every venue. There is another organization that provides a "canned " letter like you mention but I don't know if you have to belong or not to be allowed to copy it. All of the "report pirate" links on the manufacturer sites are anonymouns.

Again there is such a letter that you can download off of KIAA's site or are we still calling it POOP? I forget. Anyway what you are looking for is available if you look hard enough.

I called it "another organization." I feel silly using what we are supposed to call it. I'm glad you had the nerve to say it and save them some research. I'm still not sure what we can say on here or not.
