We have been thinking about some new options as possibly a means to stop the bad feelings being encountered over at the Singers Showcase involving comments.  In addition, there are have been concerns about inappropriate subs being subbed.  Although we don't know if these features are even actually feasible, we would like to take a vote to see what y'all think.

EDIT: POLL ENDS 01-24-07

I voted for preview comment because I like the way that works on MySpace. "Report inappropriate submission" would be a good choice tooo but Jian had some good ideas about that.

Do we want to post something in the admin thread about this when we get enough votes?

I like the preview a comment prior to it being posted is a fantastic idea.  I also like the report a submission.  I think that should be standard.. A sub can be very offensive and many of the younger ones don't need to hear that stuff.

Thanks, Chuck.  Yeah I can do that.  I didn't give a time frame for the poll though.  Didn't know how long I should give people.  Any ideas?

I'm sure two or three days would be a good time frame. Just one suggestion.

I would say at the end of January, report the results to Admin and Phill.  This should give everyone interested a chance to vote. Might as well get a large and representative vote collection without dragging it out too long.

I started to comment on this but forget it -  some people just take themselve too serious.

Geez, I guess i'm the odd man out, because I think things are fine as they are....The system is not the problem, it's the people... :O   If you are given an option to approve comments before allowing them to be seen, that will just introduce a new set of problems. For example, so and so comments on my sub, I don't like what they have to say, so I delete it....Then what happens?....They post a thread in the forums telling everyone i'm a coward, an *sshole...etc....lol......for not allowing their comments to be seen, I think it will just usher in a whole different set of problems not far from where we are now.....

I'd have opted for comments and number of comments to be seen by user only.  Deleting comments might be helpful although unless they are truly nasty and inappropriate, there could be some contention about that practice as well.

I'm sure you're right.

How to deal with the people then?

..or should we just let it go on?

Well that's the million dollar question, I think maybe making the rules of the SS a little more visible, and explaining in great detail what subbing under "C" actually means, would help out quite a bit.

The idea Nathan, would be to allow the removal of comments that are blatant attacks on the person's character, that may contain obscenities, things of that nature. It's not meant to promote the removal of legitimate song critique.  I think a vast majority of people could agree on the distinction.  I think some changes would be good to attempt.  I seriously doubt things would get worse then they are now.

Making sure the rules are followed could help. Is that possible?

By the way E.J., I don't mean to take myself so seriously. I'm still working on that.

I think anybody mentioning someone else's name in a defammatory and inciteful way should be immediately barred, vanquished and deported--I've already requested to be barred from the forums.  Less ammunition given, the better.  It's a no win situation--one can't even be civil and try to add helpful opinions or suggestions as long as the person's name is attached to them.  This applies to song submission intros, content of submissions, comments on submissions and comments made in forums.  We should be able to report any observations of this taking place to administration in due confidence.  In the situation of receiving harassing PMS, that should be reported as well, being sure to include material quotes so that adminstration is not bothered with fancied slights or misinterpretation as to what constitutes harrassment.

Right, we don't want to remove the critique button at all.  We just want the singer to have the ability to remove whatever they feel is offensive to them or see what is being commented before they allow the public to view it, that is all.

I also don't think that those who chose not to critique on a 'C" should be reprimanded by others for "fluffing"...I mean were all here for different reasons, for me it's just a place to chill and sing anything I feel like singing, wether it sounds good or not, that's why I sub under "J" in the SS, I don't have anything to prove, and i'm not here to compete....And I might add that there are very few people in the SS that are qualified to give a critique anyways...I can only think of two people right off hand, and neither of them are even around much anymore.......But of course, "C" should have a meaning, and people should understand what goes along with it....

I couldn't agree more.
