When we got to the chorus (Giddyup-a-oom-papa-mow-mow) this woman busted out in a bass that had me doubting my manhood.

This cracked me up because I am a little 5 foot tall woman who can pull off the Giddyup-a-oom-papa-mow-mow too! Ironically, I have a pretty broad range, from very low to pretty high. Unfortunately, I tend to run out of air sometimes, so I don't have much luck with songs that require me to hold a note for too long. When I first discovered karaoke there was a couple who used to do Sonny and Cher's "I Got You Babe"...the man sang Cher and the woman sang Sonny. Funniest thing I ever saw!

Everyone LOVED it! I was shocked at how high the guy could go. He sang a lot higher than Cher can, that's for sure. But he actually sounded good when he did it, even though he was singing the song wrong. The woman had a rough time actually singing because she was laughing so hard at him when he sang.

I studied classical organ and piano for many years. I had a catastrophic illness some 20 years ago and it rendered me unable to play any longer. Wanting some kind of musical outlet I took up singing some years later. The structure and harmony knowledge I had aquired during my keyboard years enabled me to pull off songs which are clearly out of my limited vocal skills and ability. I say yes, yes, yes to the value of any professional music instruction for anyone who is looking for continuous improvement.
