Sadly, the new guy was not ready for prime time.
The stage was not setup correctly.
The singer mic and screen were off center.
The speakers were set wrong. (Too much base/reverb)
A group of KJs arrived to support the "New Guy".
We were kinda disappointed overall.
The venue has decided to go another way.
They now are booking "Name Brand Stars", Adam Corolla was the first.
It's been a few weeks and the "Big Names" continue.
So the venue has the cash, the KJ failed to preform.
Names redacted for privacy.
The Venue is "Mom Said Yes" and are packing the house.
Your thoughts?

I have found that the majority of people hosting karaoke, should not be doing so.

Many of them, lack people skills and have the personality of a flea. Then we come to the equipment. Their sound sucks, and they have no clue how to run a mixer and make people sound good.

The way I look at it is, sound is your business. It is not set it and forget it. Every singer's voice is different. And it's up to the KJ to make every singer sound good. This is done by increasing/decreasing Gain, boosting the mids, highs, and lows, as necessary, using the right amount of reverb, etc. We call this EQ'ing. Yet, hardly anybody will taylor the sound to each individual singer.

If your primary business is sound, then you should learn everything there is about setting up and properly running your system.

And that's another thing, I see that so many hosts use such crap equipment, inferior speakers, junk mics, etc.

They do not look at this as a real business. And sadly, many venues think this is how karaoke really is because they never heard a KJ who knows what he/she is doing, run a professional show with awesome sound and a dynamic personality.

In my area, there are tons of bars doing karaoke. And out of all of them, I can honestly say that I have respect for 3 of the KJ's. They are good with people, have good sound, and know how to use the equipment. But all the rest should not be doing karaoke outside of their home. They are not very professional.
